How long did you date before you got engaged?

4 years, we started dating off and on in the 10th grade.

1 1/2 months the first time. I didn't believe him. He has this weird sense of humor that half the time you don't know if he's joking or being serious. So being tht I never gave him a real answer (I didn't think it was a real question) he waited a LOOOOONG 7 years to punish me. lol.

We started discussing it our 2nd month of dating, he made it official on the 4th month. Which was Christmas morning 2012, he got down on one knee. I still get chills down my spine when I think about him. He's an amazing man!

We dated 5 years before he proposed. And then we waited another 4 years to get married.

About a year. Been 3.5 years together now.

A little over 2 years! And I was so excited that he proposed on a random day, not a holiday or anniversary because I didn't see it coming!

About 2.5 years.

Um... dated 5 months...broke up for 3...dated 5 months before he popped the question. He said he knew what he wanted...I was trying to figure it out still. lol

Ring shopping @ 17 months! He was going to propose on our 2nd anniversary, but waited until our 3rd anniversary. We bought a house around our 2nd anniversary.

6 1/2 with 2 of them long distance.

Ok ours is long and involved but I'll try to edit it to be short.

We grew up together. Went to elementary/middle school together so we've been friends for a long time.

We reconnected after 15 years in 2010, became friends first, then started to date in 2011.

We broke up that summer and started dating again beginning of 2012. So we officially dated for 11 months before the proposal but we have history that spans 25 years.

We were engaged on our 5 year anniversary together.

10 months

1 yr 4 months

3 years when we got "officially" engaged. But we knew pretty much from the start and moved in together after the first year of dating.

Will be married after 4 1/2 years of being together.

6 years.

This post is surprising to read, all of the different time frames! I wonder how much of a difference the dating period makes. It would be interesting to find out more about it. :-)
