How long did you hire your photographer for?

We’re starting to talk to potential photographers, who naturally charge by the number of hours. I’m just not sure how many we’ll need! Do photographers generally stay to the end of the reception? The wedding is at 6 and reception will go to 10:30. I’ll want some pre-ceremony shots. Thanks!

Just had my wedding this past weekend and agree with getting as many photos knocked out pre ceremony which is what we did. We had our first look and knocked out all the photos before the ceremony. Made the most sense

    Hello Barbara!

    Congratulations on your wedding!

I believe the amount of time you need is depending on what you're looking for, if you'd like pictures of you and you're bridesmaids getting ready that's at least 2 hours, I also recommend if you want the same photos of your groom and his groomsmen getting ready to ask if they are able to bring a 2nd photographer. I would recommend probably around 8 hours in total that way it covers getting ready, the ceremony, and your wedding! Best of Luck Smiley heart

6-8 hours is pretty standard but it really depends on your event and what you want captured. For a smaller intimate wedding with a dinner only reception, it might be 4 hours or less, but for larger, longer events it could be 10 hours or more.

I don't think its absolutely necessary for your photographer to be there from start to finish, but if you want getting ready shots or are planning on doing a big "send off" that you want captured then you should calculate that in.

Our wedding is 4pm-10pm but I don't imagine us needing our photographer the whole time. We want a few getting ready shots (not a ton) and some of sunset (which is at 8:30pm), so I could see us having our primarily photographer from 2:30-9:30pm or so. We have our main photographer for 7 hours and our second shooter for 5 hours.

6 hours… and that’s honestly more than we need.

Anywhere from 6 to 10 hours makes sense. Budget-wise anywhere from $1,700 to $3,300. Sometimes longer coverage collections include a second photographer which will benefit you truly. Have you booked anyone yet?
