How long did you wait to announce your engagement?

That's great!!! Just be careful she doesn't tell FMIL and FMIL is upset she found out that way!

    Cute post-engagement photo BTW

My husband announced it on fb right away! Before me! And I’m usually the one all over social media. Lol! He proprosed in front of our both families last thanksgiving. So the only one that wasn’t there that needed to know before fb was my best friend. And I text her right away! And I’m happy I did Bc my husband didn’t wait more than ten mins after all the screaming, tears, pictures before you posted it!

We made a deal with each other that we’d post it on social media/announce it to the world a week after getting engaged, so we spent that week calling all our closest family and friends to tell them first! We had told everyone important by then, and then shared it publicly.

We never like, hid it or anything though. I wore my ring in public and some people I ended up telling some people I’m not super close to just because I saw them and was wearing the ring haha. We just wanted to make sure to tell our nearest and dearest before broadcasting it publicly

Publicly? A few hours later Haha. We called our parents shortly after and then updated Facebook soon after that.

I never really announced it. Family and friends spread the rumor and now that I look back I regret not "announcing" it on social media or so on. I was like you, I wanted to shout it through rooftops right away but then I thought about having a photo shoot and then posting on social media to announce it in a fun way but time passed by and I never did the photoshoot and didn't come up with anything creative so I never really got to announce it. I'd say just go ahead and do it! Don't procrastinate about it like I did.

An hour😂I was too excited there was no way I was keeping it in. As soon as I showed up anywhere with the ring folks would have known anyway.

    Congrats!!

We were on a cruise in the Bahamas and wanted to wait till the cruise was over it was a 5 day cruise and he proposed on the 2nd day and this was the day after we wanted to enjoy the peace and calm before our phones blew up but when we went to snap chat one of the islands we were snap chatting ourselves in a video and idk how people noticed half my arm in 1 photo not even my face and saw my ring and started asking us and blowing our phones up. We did so well hiding it till that 1 video so after that we decided to do a post at the same time on social media. So officially we waited 1 day after, I would of loved to wait the whole time but that was our bad.

I got engaged November 8th too!!! I waited until after Thanksgiving to tell people but that’s just what worked for us. We’re eloping 12-12-18. Not all of his extended family knows- we have another ceremony and reception in the Spring for them.

We got engaged Nov 4th 2015. His mom knew for a while he was going to propose. I announced to my coworker the next day that I was engaged because just a week before I told her he would never propose to me (together 4.5 years already) so it was a surprise. We told my parents that following weekend and my mom totally knew right away when I tell her we need to talk to both parents. I didn't even have to tell her. But I told my dad shortly after. And he got all serious sat down in the reclining chair with both arms on each arm of the chair. And my FH said something happened and my dad said your pregnant. And I say NOOO IM NOT PREGNANT. IM ENGAGED. (Can't believe he thought that before being engaged) FH didn't ask him like traditional proposes. Dad was completly surprised and happy for both of us.

Sorry for the long story but I think my dads reaction was funny.

That's the only sad thing. My dad passed away in 2009, and I hate that he won't be there to walk me down the aisle. But, I know he would be ecstatic.

I loved your dad's reaction. Sounds like something mine would have said. LoL.

Oh I'm sorry for your loss. Have you thought of having your mom or another father figure for walking you down the aisle?

I actually plan on having my oldest daughter give me away. She's 14, and I think she'd really love to be included like that.

We announced very quickly. I really didn't see any purpose in waiting. I don't understand waiting to find out a venue to announce. You don't hand out invitations or details the minute you announce you are engaged.

We called family and friends almost instantaneously. Once we talk to her parents and close friends we went out to our local hole in the wall because we knew close friends would be there as well that we could celebrate with.
I don’t understand why you wouldn’t shout it from the rooftops, I understand even less the idea of waiting to find a venue, some couples can take months to find a venue...
Has he specifically asked you not to tell anyone? Like have you guys not told your parents? Has he not told his parents or close friends? Honestly that level of secrecy would raise a red flag for me ...

    Maybe 30 minutes.
We took a few minutes to be excited and soak it all in and I admired my ring. Then it took a bit for the FaceTime to my parents to go through. But while i was on the phone he was updating his Facebook status. I really wanted to wait until morning to put in on Facebook but he couldn’t wait, lol! So then I quickly texted my best friend and sister before he hit post. By the end of the night we’d texted or called all immediate family members and closest friends.
