How Long Did You Wait To Start Wedding Planning After Getting Engaged?

It's easy to want to plan out the entire wedding as soon as you get engaged! However, not everyone starts planning right away. Some couples wait so they can spend time enjoying the engagement and sharing the news with their friends and families. Others start planning before they're actually engaged. How long after getting engaged did you wait before jumping into wedding planning? Did you start planning immediately? Did you wait a few weeks (or even a few months)? Or did you start planning before officially getting engaged?

Lots of big life events at once!! That's awesome, congratulations on everything! Totally makes sense why you waited to start wedding planning. How long of an engagement are you guys planning to have?

That makes sense to start thinking up ideas beforehand so you had a great starting point for when you did get engaged!

Sounds like you have everything under control! Very cool! Happy belated birthday, and congratulations on your engagement! The checklists have also been super helpful for me, I seriously never realized what all went into wedding planning before I got engaged. Happy wedding planning!

No he actually proposed on a Sunday and the next day our vacation started!
It was cool to have that time to relax plus we met his parents for the vacation so we got to tell them in person which was awesome!

Lol, that makes sense! I love planning as well, so I'm usually one to start planning earlier rather than later. Did you know the proposal was coming? Or did you start planning/coming up with ideas while not knowing when the engagement would happen?

This is a weird time to get married! Vendors are definitely booking up quick this year, you were smart to get your date, venue, and photographer booked right away. How exciting that the proposal is coming soon!

Thank you!!! I'm so excited even though I already know he will be proposing soon. I'm just as excited as if it was a complete surprise! Yes most vendors have very limited availability. We had to go with a Friday wedding to coordinate with the photographer we wanted. Most DJs in our price range are almost booked up already.

It's so awesome when you walk in to tour a venue, and you just know that it's the right one for you! That happened with my fiance and I, we ended up touring four venues over three days, and the venue we ended up booking was the third one we looked at. We knew as we were walking around that it was exactly what we were looking for. I think starting planning after 2 months of being engaged is a good amount of time! You said that you pretty much had everything planned out in your head before you officially started planning - now that you've started planning, did you stick with a lot of the ideas you had before getting engaged? Or do your current wedding plans look totally different from your original wedding ideas?

I feel like my wedding planning has been similar! My fiance and I waited almost a month before starting planning, and then we quickly booked a venue, photographer, and DJ right off the bat. Then we had a while where we did nothing. Then I bought my dress. Then nothing. Then food tasting and ordering invites. Then COVID hit and back to nothing lol. At least you were able to spread the planning out over a period of time, instead of having to do everything at once!

We kind of started immediately, but kind of not....I guess it depends on what immediately is to people haha. We got engaged the day after Thanksgiving and we didn't start planning and touring venues until January. We wanted to be able to enjoy the holidays and kind of bask in the glory of being engaged in December, so planning wasn't really on our minds. Come January 1st though...I was all about the planning. January-March is the worst stretch of the year for me because NOTHING is going on, so having some wedding planning actually cheered me up a lot!

Makes sense that you needed to start planning right away, glad you were able to secure your venue for the day of the week you wanted! I love the red and black combination too. Is that the color scheme you ended up going with?

Very cool! My fiance and I also got engaged July 2019, we started researching venues and photographers towards the end of August, but didn't start touring/meeting with any of them until September.

That's awesome that you picked your date ahead of time! And makes sense why you almost immediately started planning, since there were only 4.5 months before your wedding. Was the date you picked a date that was significant to your relationship?

It's tough to get all kinds of questions that you don't have the answers to yet! Though awesome that everyone was so excited for you! Makes sense why you started planning right away.

Yes it was. We almost switched because my brother-in-law was going to have red as his wedding color six weeks after us, but they ended up going with green instead.

I'm sure it'll be a very special proposal! And good choice on the Friday wedding! Better chance that vendors are available, I'm sure you'll find a DJ soon. My fiance and I chose a Friday wedding as well.
