How Long Did You Wait To Start Wedding Planning After Getting Engaged?

It's easy to want to plan out the entire wedding as soon as you get engaged! However, not everyone starts planning right away. Some couples wait so they can spend time enjoying the engagement and sharing the news with their friends and families. Others start planning before they're actually engaged. How long after getting engaged did you wait before jumping into wedding planning? Did you start planning immediately? Did you wait a few weeks (or even a few months)? Or did you start planning before officially getting engaged?

Aww, how cool! I love that you were able to tell his parents the news in person and spend the vacation celebrating your engagement!

I mean, I'd done a *big smidge* of research before, because I had an idea that it was coming...

But, mostly we knew we wanted to get married in 2019, but DH waited until 15 minutes before 2019 began to propose.

    So.

I got my dress a week later. We were slowed down a bit because DH got super sick for about a month. I used that time to research more, and by February we were touring venues.

We ended up planning the wedding in about 7 1/2 months, less if you count DH being sick.

Lol, nothing wrong with being excited to start wedding planning! Awesome that you were able to book your venue so quickly! Did you know which venue you wanted before you got engaged? My fiance and I found our venue within 7-8 weeks of our engagement, but didn't pay the deposit/sign the contract until a few months later (they were holding our date for us until we could pay the deposit).

I would say I really only booked the venue and picked my bridal party right away, didnt start booking other vendors or doing other planning until I was engaged for 9 months. We had an 18 month engagement so also 9 months from the wedding

I think that was a great plan that you guys had! Take the time to enjoy the excitement of the engagement and the holidays, and then hit the ground running with wedding planning once the holidays were over. And ugh, I agree that January through March (or even April) is the worst! Where I live, the weather is cold and miserable that time of year, and there are no holidays coming up to look forward to. That's awesome that you were able to have wedding planning to keep you busy during that time!

Glad you didn't have to switch and that you got the colors you wanted! Sounds like everything worked out for the best.

Never hurts to start doing research beforehand! Did you end up using many of the ideas you came up with in the research you did before you got engaged? Or did your wedding end up being totally different? That is awesome that you got your dress so soon after getting engaged!

Booking the venue is the most important part to officially secure the date, so it makes sense why you did that right away! I think 9 months is plenty of time to plan. Did you run into any issues with vendors already being booked 9 months in advance? Or was there still a lot of availability at that time?

No we had no idea. We visited 3 different venues but had about 5 in mind (we had already seen the other two before). Once we visited our venue we immediately knew that was it and paid the deposit I believe 2 weeks later!

It's such a good feeling to tour a venue and just know it's the right one! What was it about your venue made it the right one for you? My fiance and I also knew our venue was the one for us as soon as we took the tour. We were looking for something forest-y, lots of trees, and near the water, and our venue checked all of those boxes and more. We both fell in love with the scenery and the venue itself, and knew we had to book it.

Thank you! We are set to get married in April of this year! So we will have been engaged a little over a year! I was honestly never expecting to be able to have a wedding, but somehow we are making this workout. Only two payments left to go on our venue.

    Oh, yeah.

I'd actually found the invitations years before - went looking for cufflinks for DH and the algorithm suggested them as something I'd like.
The only thing that was different was not getting married in DH's church.... but I was happy about that.

I did most of my planning pre-Covid and had a Sunday wedding so didnt have a problem with any of my vendors not being available!

It's all inclusive. Food, alcohol, linens, centerpieces, Day of coordinator, Cake etc. aside from hiring the other vendors, we won't have to do much! & they offered us 10%/person off since we chose March which isn't wedding season. It doesn't seem like much but it definitely cut the price down!

That's awesome that you were able to make it work, and that your wedding day is coming up so quick! A year engagement is pretty decent timing for planning. Congratulations on your upcoming wedding!

Good morning! We started planning immediately. We got engaged this Christmas and have our date, colors and bridesmaids for both sides picked. We have the videographer/photographer booked and have been actively searching for a venue. Our wedding isn't until next May but we wanted plenty of time to plan and save.

Oh wow, very cool! It's crazy how advertisements know exactly what each person might like, lol. Awesome that you were able to plan a lot of your wedding ahead of the engagement!
