How long did your church take to get back to you?

Jackie, on April 4, 2019 at 10:45 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 8
My church is currently in between pastors and currently has an interim one. The website says that you have to talk to the pastor to have a ceremony there. So I called a week ago and I haven't heard anything back. Is it normal for churches to not get back to you right away? Or should I be worried that I haven't been called back since this pastor may not even be there when my wedding happens?

Every church is different. I would probably move on if I hadn’t heard back for about two weeks.

I had this issue when we were trying to book a church for our ceremony. Does your church have a Facebook page? I sent them a private message through that and I heard back the next day. It's most likely different with each congregation, but this church's social media pages were run by either a deacon or a volunteer rather than the pastor. Because of the changes going on with the church, my message got lost in the shuffle. This way you will have another means of contact. I would try FB messaging them and if you don't hear anything, try calling again. Not sure if you are local to the church you want to get married in, but perhaps you could speak to someone after Sunday service if you are.

Your situation is unique since your church is in between pastors. No one can really answer this question. I recommend going there in person and having an in-person meeting with the interim pastor to get some answers regarding your timeline.

    Hi there Jackie!

Welcome to the WeddingWire community Smiley smile

There are no standard response times for churches I’m afraid, it would vary for many reasons.

In times of change, there is definitely an adjustment period which may be causing delays in responses. As Earias suggested, a visit to the church in person may be the best way to get answers at this point.

Do you live near the church? Is this possible?

Yes it is possible. I was just trying to avoid having to go and see him when hes probably very busy on a Sunday. But that maybe my best option.

You can arrange for a meeting on a day other than Sunday. Most pastors work at the church during the week. They will usually have a day off during the week so you may need to go on a Sunday just to make the arrangement for a meeting during the week so you don't show up on a day the pastor has off.

Did the church ever come back to you, Jackie? Did you end up having to pop in and visit them?

So I called again and someone did call me back. Apparently when I started calling the church was in the process of interviewing a new pastor, so the interim pastor just ignored my call so he was on the way out. They hired a new person and she starts in a few weeks. So I'm waiting for her to settle in and then I'm going to try again. I'll let you know if it works out.
