How Long Did Your Hairstyle Hold?

Abby, on July 19, 2013 at 11:13 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 13

For those who are married or have had a hair trial run....

How long did your hairstyle look 'fresh' and hold for?

I would really like to usual stylist to do my hair. She has been cutting my hair for over 10 years and I trust her enough to not do a trial run. Plus she is only charging me $25!!!!! But she will only do my hair at her salon. My dilemma is my venue is about 30 miles from the salon, so if I had to go there to have my hair done, we would probably be talking about 9-10am in the morning for photos at 3pm and the ceremony starting at 4:30pm. I don't want to go to venue in the morning and have to waste an hour of the day driving back and forth from the salon.

Do you think the hair will hold all day? Or should I look in to hiring a hair person who will come to the venue? My makeup artist will be coming to the venue.

If it makes a difference, I plan to have some variation on a half up/half down style like the photo. My hair is naturally sort of curly.

I couldn't attest to the quality of your stylist but the hold of the curls on your hair is really going to depend on your hair texture and her skill.

As for the travel, personally I would advise against it if you can help it. One of my very good friends was an hour late to her wedding because she went to a salon and ended up stuck on the highway after an accident. Most of my brides severely under estimate the time it is going to take for them to get ready with hair/makeup/dressing etc. People will annoy you ever few minutes for your opinion on things so everything just takes much longer than usual. Being in one place just really helps you not stress and relax for the big day.

I don't think I made my post that clear about the travel involved.

The salon is right by my house, so it's on the way to venue for me. To stop there in the morning is no trouble but I am afraid about my hair lasting all day and in to the evening.

What I do NOT want to do is go the venue 30 miles away, drive to salon, and then go back to venue mid-day.

    Any other opinions?

I think it depends on the products she uses and your hair texture. I would do a trial and test run it by doing the drive and all...see how it holds up.

Aw, man... my hair never holds anything, so I'm definitely doing some sort of (not prom-ish) updo, for this exact reason.

How about this: When your hair has been heavily-styled in the past, how long did it last? Was it by this person? I think that would be a better indicator. If not, well.. that's what trial runs are for! Smiley smile

For prom the women curled my hair tighter... so it would look like that once it falls. My hair was done at 11 and lead out began at 7... at 1AM my hair still had curls to it. I can never get my hair to curl. It took her an hour and a half on my hair and she only charged me $20.

    Mine holds forever usually

Our day of schedule is about the same timing and I think I will be fine!

When I had my hair trial it lasted a good 10-12 hours before I took it out. But, I had an updo with minimal down curls because my hair can go straight so easily I didn't even want to risk it.

I also had an updo since I can get very warm in hot weather and will sweat on my neck.

I was in the salon chair at 6:30 a.m., finish hair around 7:15 a.m. and it held until we (DH and I) took out the bobbie pins around 2:30 a.m.

I went to the salon to get my hair done, as did all the ladies (mom, bridesmaid, MOH, MIL, SIL) but that's because it's only 10 minutes from my house and our ceremony and reception venues.

I say get your hair done by her on a horribly hot day. and see how long it holds. I know if I do my daughters it will easily last til the next morning. Anyone else we are lucky if it lasts two hours.

    Hairspray, hairspray, hairspray!!! Smiley smile

My best friend which is my bridesmaid is paying to get mine and my grandma's hair done but the appointment is at 10. I am going to have her do my hair last because we have to be at the venue by 4:30ish-5 to get ready etc! Our ceremony doesn't start until 6, but hopefully my hair can hold that long!

It depends on your hair. I have stick straight hair and when the lady curled my hair for my Epics, it started straightening out within 2 hours. However, my sister's curls can last all day on hers.
