How long does it take eucalyptus to grow?

Kylie, on January 13, 2020 at 12:00 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 4
I’m getting married in July and I was wandering if anyone has grown their own eucalyptus or babies breath. I’m not sure if it would be worth it to buy fake, fresh, or just grow my own.

In So Cal, we have a ton of eucalyptus, but it's all in huge shrubs or tall trees, so I've never considered how long it took to grow. It is very climate specific, so depending on where you live, it might grow well or not at all. Given you have 6 months till the wedding, I'm not sure you have time to grow your own, regardless of the location. My understanding is babies breath is super cheap. Have you looked at the bulk florals on the Costco or Sam's Club site? I know they have babies breath, and a variety of greens, so maybe eucalyptus as well. (There are also a LOT of varieties of eucalyptus, so make sure you're clear about what you want. Daughter's florist used one called "Seeded eucalyptus," but "Silverdollar" is another popular one.)

Welcome to the WeddingWire community, Kylie Smiley smile

I’m afraid I don’t know a lot about growing plants, however, I struggle to keep alive the ones I buy potted!!! Unless you’re an avid gardener, I imagine this would be difficult. In my case, I can just see myself struggling to keep everything alive!!!

    Do you enjoy gardening?

I think it depends heavily on your location. I don't think my eucalyptus plant likes living in NC. I've had it about a year and there's definitely not enough growth to start cutting, and it doesn't really grow at all in the colder months. I think you can buy branches for cheap at places like Trader Joes, Costco, and Sams Club though!

Thank you! I don't love gardening but right now I'm just trying to think of anyway to keep the costs down. Smiley smile
