How long does it take to get ready on the Big Day?

Cuddlebug, on October 8, 2010 at 1:38 PM Posted in Planning 0 14

So I am getting married at an outdoor location with no buildings or places for us to get ready. The guys are getting ready at the hotel we are staying at for our wedding night and us girls are getting ready at my salon that is 10 min away from the ceremony site. My good friend/stylist works at the salon and their manger agreed to let us use the their back room to change into our dresses after getting our hair and make-up done, and their salon is already decorated in the same colors as my wedding which will be great for pictures! So now I have to schedule the appointments for everyone, but I am not sure what time to do it. Our ceremony is at 3:00. We also have to go to the reception cite and decorate that morning as well. What time should I make the appointments for our hair and make up to be done and get over to the ceremony with out rushing?

How many girls are there and what kind of hairstyle are you having? Another factor is also how long your hair is.

Hair & make up was about 2 1/2 hours for 3 of us.

We are starting around 7 am. There are 4 of us ladies altogether. This is with the ceremony starting between 1:30 and 2 p.m (we haven't set that in stone yet.) That and we don't have anything to set-up like you do. I would add an extra 2 hours for that.

Oh wow! Ok now you have me worried. There are 5 of us getting ready (and maybe my mom and MIL), but we are all going to have different stylists. I am now going to see if we could set up at the reception cite the night before.

See if the reception venue will let you guys set up the night before. I have no idea how long it takes, my big day is next week. Good luck!

It took about two hours for two of us to get hair and make-up done, decorate the synagogue, and get dressed. Basically, while one of us was getting hair and make-up, the other would be decorating. If you are getting ready somewhere other than the wedding venue, obviously that would be impossible, so you'd need to allow extra time for the decorating part.

Our salon suggested allowing 2 1/2 hours for five of us for hair and make up, they have a lot of stylists and make up artists they can use. I would ask your salon.

I have 6 of us getting ready (3 with long hair, 1 with medium hair, and 2 with shoulder lenght hair) and we're all getting makeup done, too. We're doing it in 4 hours with 2 hairstylists and 2 makeup artists - we're all getting half up-do's...and then going back to site to finalize few minor set up details after lunch before we have to get dressed at 4:30 for a 6pm ceremony. This was the timeline that both the venue coordinator and the hairstylist worked out for me... I told them what I needed and they told me time slots...after all, that's what I'm paying them for. Talk to your coordinators - it's the best way to hash out the most accurate time line...

I'd ask the salon, they should know approx how long it will take to do the hair and makeup. Then I'd leave an hour to spare just to be safe. I'd also see if you could enlist other family or friends to decorate, Unless you can decorate the night before, or VVVEEEERRRY early the morning of, I'd say you really will be stressed for time if you have to decorate also.

Take it from a "pro": makeup takes up to 45min to an hour for the bride time depends on the fact if you will be using individual eyelash extensions, which adds 15-20 min; regular application is 30 min. for everybody else. Hair takes from 30 min for a simple style to an hour and a half for the bride - especially if you use extensions and multiple small hair accessories. Keep in mind that makeup artist and hair stylis need 15-25 min. "set-up" time before the start. Then, you have to get dresssed, and perhaps the photographer will be taking "getting dressed" photos. You can calculate your timing based on that: that's pretty accurate! Enjoy your wedding!

I would hire a day of coordinator to set up the reception site. YOu do not want to have to worry about doing that on your wedding day and it will be worth the cost. You should be at the ceremony location at least 45 mins to an hour before it starts as guests usally start to arrive 30 mins before. I would book your appointments no later than 11am as you probably want your photographer to get some shots as well of getting ready.

I was looking in here because I have the same question... My ceremony is at 5pm and I will be arriving at the venue at 3pm... We are all getting ready in the hotel, what time should everyone be there to start getting ready? Thank you Smiley smile
