How long for a first look?

Allie, on June 18, 2019 at 10:41 AM Posted in Planning 1 20

For those of you who did a first look/are doing a first look, how much time did you set aside for it? I would like to get the majority of the pictures I would like with just me and FH before the ceremony. How much time do I need for this?

We set aside 1.5 hours and only took like 30 mins.

I've only done a very rough timeline, but I planned for 30 minutes for the first look. We are doing photos with just the two of us during cocktail hour as well.

Did you get most of your pictures with just the two of you during the first look or did you have a lot more afterwards?

Yeah, my cousin suggested 30 minutes but I felt like that was too short. I'm sure my FH will be ready to quit after 30 minutes of pictures though lol.

We have 3 hours set aside for first look and all other pictures but it broke down to about a half hour for first look. Our ceremony starts at 4:45 and set aside 1-4 for pictures. Our photographers are starting detail shots at 1 and first look at 1:30 or 2 and then all other pictures. They said we will be done by 3-330 but I gave some extra time.

We got most of our photos in 30 min, then we wanted a photo in the sunset and while dancing. I highly recommend to rehearse your poses, the photographer didn't have to guide us at all.

Daughter had about 90 minutes for first look with dad, first look with groom, lots of B&G photos, and most wedding party photos, before they ceremony. (And, they still missed cocktail hour with additional photos (it was near sunset by then, so there were photos they could only get then with the gorgeous light, etc....)

We set aside an hour. We are doing first look and then family/wedding party photos at that time so we don’t miss our cocktail hour.

I was wondering the same & we decided on 1 hour for the first look, all photos of FH & me & us with my immediate family (just 4 of them). All detail shots & those of me getting ready will be done prior to our first look, of course.
After ceremony, during cocktail hour, we will do photos with FH’s family & BP (only 2 of them).
I know how many great photos FH & I took in 1 hour of our engagement shoot (like 200 of really great ones lol) so with our schedule, I’m pretty confident 1 hour will be enough.

90 minutes. If your photographer pre-scouts photo spots at your location, you can probably do 60 minutes. But having the extra 30 minutes was helpful.

Our photographer said we can have up to twenty minutes alone during first look
She then suggested to just get bridal party pics and family pics out of the way prior to ceremony as everyone will be hungry and thirsty and not as enthusiastic by the time ceremony is over.

We have a timeline of 30mins for the first look, though a professional photographer suggested an hour.

If you have your location picked out and know what pictures you want 30 minutes should be plenty of time; especially if it’s just the two of you

We set aside 1-1.5 hours to do photos in general. So our first set of pics were me and him doing first look and then photos. That in itself didn't take too long
