How long guests stay

Jaimie, on January 3, 2020 at 9:31 PM Posted in Planning 0 12
Hi all! I am wondering how long guests typically stay at a wedding. I'm asking because I plan to have ceremony at 3, dinner at 5, but dancing doesn't start til 6:30 and guests have to leave venue by 8pm. Do you think guests will stay til the end?

Yes! Many weddings I've been to have had dancing starting at 7 and people are still there at midnight!

Mine was 3-8 and only a few people left at 7. We had dinner at 4:30 and dancing at 5:45. One couple left early bc that’s just what they do and one group had to catch a flight. Everyone else stayed til 8.

If all weddings and receptions were only 5 hours long, I'd have a much better shot at staying.
I generally try to stay an hour or so after the conclusion of dinner... unless they have a ridiculous table service meal that takes 2.5 hours to serve.

Yeah, 5 hours is a standard wedding time frame. Pur wedding was 5-10:30 and most people stayed until the end.

Did you feel rushed for anything with that 3-8 time period?

Ceremony at 530, cocktails at 6, dinner at 7. Eat don’t eat. Stay and dance but y’all need to leave at 11. I’ll be done and ready to hang out with the hubs.

Yes I’m sure people will stay! 8pm is early and actually probably a great time to end. My wedding was 430-10 and I felt like we started losing people around 9/930

It depends on the guests you're inviting and how well you know them collectively as a group. I personally do not think you'll have a problem. For my FH and I's wedding we know a majority of our group will close down our venue with us, lol. We're getting married at 4pm, no cocktail hour, reception is set to begin at 4:45 with bridal party introductions, our first dance, mother of the groom/groom dance and my dance with my grandpa. Dinner will begin around 5:15-5:20. We have our venue until 10pm. We're figuring after the dinner and cake cutting most of our older guests we are inviting will likely leave; grandparents, older aunts and uncles, etc. However, the rest of our guests and our bridal party will likely stay until the bar's last call at 9:45.
