How Long is a Honeymoon?

Latisha, on March 29, 2012 at 12:37 AM Posted in Honeymoon 0 35

Jermaiine and I was thinking that our honeymoon should be six days five nights. My sister in law stated that was not long enough.

*UPDATED BY WW IN 2020*

According to the latest WeddingWire Newlywed Report , 42% of honeymoons last more than one week - the average was 8 days. Plus over one quarter of couples are now taking “mini-moons” in lieu of or prior to a full honeymoon. The average amount couples spent on a honeymoon in 2019 was $5,000.

I see no problem with it honestly, my parent's couldn't afford a real honeymoon plus they had to kids to worry about having someone sit us, so they just spent a weekend at a nice hotel. It is what ever you want it to be Smiley smile

In the old days, a honeymoon was a month long. (Hence the reference to the "moon" in there.) However, few people today can take that long. Take what you have time and finances for.

Some people do "mini moons" that are short weekends or overnight stays, some people wait to take their HMs later when they have more money/time, and some people take time right away. There's no right or wrong, everyone's situation will be different. Just do what's right and what works best for you.

We're doing a 4-day cruise. and possibly the week after since we'll be in the states - but that'll be used as visiting family time.

Thanks everyone, we are going to the beach for our honeymoon but we just did not want to leave our honeymoon one day and be back at work the next day. Our budget allows bother of us to be out for as much time as we want but do not want to fall out the swing of returning to work.

Were doing a quick mini moon but then we get 6 weeks in Sept/Oct! That wasn't the original plan, but I'm so excited!

However, we were originally only planning on a week, and I think that that's totally fine! It's going to be special no matter how long it is. It's really just how long you can afford to take off.

Typically honeymoons are about a week long. Honestly -- you should take the honeymoon that fits your and your FH's desires and budget. Whether it be a 6 days or 14.

Were trying to do at least 2 weeks. We want to go as long as we can because it is one of the only times we will actually be able to get away

It's totally up to you. I am getting my 4th week of vacation time next year at my job (I get 3 weeks now), so we are taking a week off, but we are leaving on a cruise on a Monday, getting married on Wednesday and getting back from the cruise on a Saturday. So I guess that means the "honeymoon" is only Thursday through Saturday? But with having a special needs son and needing to take off most of my time for him when he isn't in school, this worked out perfectly or us. Smiley smile

Everyone does what works for them.

FH is taking three weeks off from work. The wedding is OOT so we're spending five days at the resort. The last two weeks are going to be the actual honeymoon.

Some people don't do a honeymoon until they have more money, time, etc.

We are going on a mini-moon for a few days to the mountains. Then about 6 months later (when FH gets Spring Break), we will be going away for a week. Either going to Hawaii or Mexico.

Originally our mini-moon was going to be a few days away in our new house, but our house won't be finished by then, so it's now the mountains.

A honeymoon can be anywhere and for ever long you want!

We are doing a DW in Jamaica and are staying a week but decided that wouldn't count as our honeymoon since pretty much our whole guest list decided to stay the same legnth we are. We booked a trip to Mexico for the Monday-Sunday after our US reception. I am soooo excited for this fall!
