How long is the average engagement in your area

Just out of curiosity, how long would you say the average engagement is where you live? What would you say is the average age of marriage? I ask because, well, in Utah, most people are engaged for roughly 4-5 months and get married around 21/22ish. I'm 26 and my engagement will be 10 months long....

I'm 26 and my engagement will be 10 months long. I'm constantly getting "why are you having such a long engagement?" Which is fine, I understand why their engagements are so short (religious reasons). I thought my engagement length was about average, and then I jumped on here and saw that sometimes people have 2-3 year engagements. So now I'm wondering if I'm more on the shorter side of average.

Again, this is purely for curiosity reasons. Just interesting to see how things vary in different areas of the U.S. (or even outside the U.S.)

Alyssa! I found you! My engagement is going to be a bit over a year and I'm getting the same reaction from people...locals anyway.

Ours is a 10 month engagement, I am 34 and FH is 28 and first marriage for both of us. The only thing I get questioned about is people seem to struggle believing this is my first marriage because of my age and 14 yr old daughter.

FH is nonactive in the LDS faith but a lot of his family is active so we have gotten a lot of questions about the long engagement even though it is only 15 months. My family considers it a short engagement.

I got engaged in August and our wedding is next August. So a year. I've had friends who's engagements were about a year too.

Our community is pretty diverse for the small town that it is. I've been engaged twice...the first engagement was YEARS; I won't go into detail, but it was 3 1/2- 4 years of planning to end up $5k in the hole from deposits put down and no wedding. Ended up alright, but my FH and I have been engaged since a week before Thanksgiving of last year. I'm an impatient betch.

I've also had friends who were engaged for a few weeks and eloped (still together), my sister was engaged for 5 years(ish) (separating after 15 years), so I really have no concept of "average" when it comes to engagements lol

In our area its about a 1-1.5 years if you want a conventional venue like a hall or a country club.

We viewed our venue 16 months out and there were only 2 Fridays left in April when we look and no Saturdays. Things book up fast in the Philadelphia Area.

In the northeast, 1-2 years is about normal. Agewise, 25-30.

We were engaged just under a year. I live in NH, not sure if there's a norm.

Most younger brides here are engaged for about a year. Older brides (30+) are usually 3-6 months. Ours is 9 months & we've had several friends get engaged after us & married before us.

We knew each other a year before we started dating, dated a year before getting engaged and now an 11 month engagement. But this isn't a first marriage for either of us and we have 3 almost teenagers.

@sharla yay for being normies in Utah! Jk, but I glad I'm doing a "longer engagement." Lots of time to plan and pay. I thought about going to the year mark, but I'm impatient lol.

I was with my FH for a little short of a year, when he proposed. We got engaged on May 19, 2015 and our wedding date is April 6, 2017. We are having an international wedding, so the time is what we needed to plan for it and give our guests enough time to plan for it as well. Plus buying a house in between took up a lot of time. Everyone's story is different! Smiley smile

My engagement will be about 9 months. I have had a few people think that it's too short. I however have been waiting for my boyfriend of almost 7 years to propose and do not want to wait any longer than that! We are 25. I feel the average around here is about a year
