How long is too long for wedding pictures?

Liz, on July 7, 2023 at 1:09 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 2

Hello! My husband and I got married on 4/27 and have not received any sneak peeks or wedding pictures from our photographer as of 10 weeks since today. Unfortunately, we failed to have made it a talking point in our contract; therefore, it's up in the air for a return date on pictures. Everything has been paid for. I have reached out to our photographer a couple of times (3 to be exact) and have been told, "Let me see if the editor has any," which was as far as we got. We're the ones who's been making the point of contact, and not him. We're getting a tad impatient because, at the very least, 1-2 photos should have been shared by now. I'm getting a bit nervous something happened with our photos. He is a famous photographer (he even works for celebrities), so I know he's authentic and isn't fake. Any advice to help a girl out?

It sounds as though your photographer simply took the pictures, and he’s not the one editing them. If he has outsourced editing, the timeframe is completely up to this third-party (and is probably why he doesn’t put any narrative in his contract about turnaround time for photos). At this point, I think the only options you have are to 1. See if he will give you contact information to the third-party editor, so that you can contact them directly (and hopefully get an ETA for your photos), 2. See if he can get you an ETA 3. See if paying a rush fee is a possibility or 4. Simply be patient and wait it out. Unfortunately, I’ve heard of photos taking 6+ months when they are being edited by an outside source.

Really just echoing what Cece said, if editing is outsourced then the photographer really can't help you. It is not in the photographer's best interest to be pestering the editor for updates because he wants to keep a good relationship with the editor. Even when editing isn't outsources the average is 12-16 weeks. And when it is it is often longer than that.

I would ask if he wouldn't mind sharing the contact info for the editor so you can reach out to get an estimate of how long it will take. You can offer to pay a fee to have it quicker. Or you can just wait. If you are worried something happened that he isn't telling you, you can say something like, "I know it is a bit out of your hands for when we will get our photos, but it is making me anxious to be out of the loop as to when I will be getting them. Would you mind verifying that everything with the pictures is good and that they haven't been lost/corrupted in any way? That will help me ease up a bit. Thanks!"

I know it sucks! But from your post it sounds unlikely that something happened to the photos.
