How long is your first dance?

Mrs.VtoBe, on January 23, 2017 at 11:57 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 49

I attended a wedding last year where the bride and groom danced to about 45sec to 1 min of their song. Is it normal to not play the full song? I thought it was very cute but a little too short for my taste. Do you plan on dancing to the whole song? What about for your father daughter dances?

I personally want all the dances as short as possible. I don't like the idea of everyone looking at us. Ha

I want to do a short one. So I'm curious to see what others have to say.

Our song is only about two and a half minutes long and it's perfect!

Ours is almost 4 minutes and I'm dancing to every second cause FH is not a dancer and I'm enjoying any dance I can get from him

I picked a short song to begin with and we will still probably not dance to the whole thing. I hate attention, so I'll be embarrassed and uncomfortable throughout the whole thing - but FH loves sentimental crap, so we're compromising.

As a guest, I am always relieved when they don't do the whole song because watching other people slow dance is super boring, especially if they are doing additional dances (mother-son, father-daughter). That's just me, though. Other people enjoy watching them.

Do what feels right to you. Will you feel comfortable dancing to a full song in front of all your guests?

Were doing our whole song, but we are having the bridal party join in about halfway through so we get that dance out of the way and it feels less awkward. Plus we get enough time for the photographer to get the first dance pictures we want

Can't comment on our first dance, because we haven't choreographed it yet, but at my ballroom dance studio all of our performance songs are cut to about 1:30. I think that's a pretty good length.

Well, I've considered starting the song when we introduce our wedding party kind of like a background music playing (it's a 4min song but my absolute favorite) but when they're called out maybe the GM could twirl the BM and scoot off the floor for the next BM and GM. So when FH and I are called last we can finish up the last part since that's our favorite part of the song. I'll have to see it first though

We are still talking about it but we both hate being the center of attention. We are considering having the DJ asks guests to join us half way through (no BP here)

Our dance was like 4 mins and 30 seconds and it felt like an ETERNITY up there! If I could do it again, I would have had our parents join in after 2 mins.

Hmm hadn't thought of this, I would like to dance the whole thing but I will have to see how FH feels

If we do one it will be a portion of the song, like 30-45 seconds and then we will have the DJ ask the other coupes to come up and join us. I can't imagine being stared at by my bored guests for the duration of a whole song lol. But that's just personal preference, I hate the spotlight and being the center of attention..I'd be happy skipping it all together but I've been told by several that I "can't do that":/

I'm with pp's. I'd really like to make all dances as short as possible. I dont think anybody wants to sit and watch me slow dance for a long period of time

Ours is 3:30, which is a little too long, but we don't want to compromise the integrity of the song and the end is the best part. It starts slow and instrumental so we might walk toward each other to kill some time at the beginning. For father daughter, I am dancing with my dad for one verse and then our whole family and FI's family will join in. At the end, it turns into a fast song and the dance floor opens for all.

I used song editing software that I downloaded for free to edit both songs. The first dance was about 3 minutes and the parental dance was about 2 minutes.

We haven't officially decided yet but we were talking about doing the entire song but having couples join in half way through to kind of break it up
