How long is your first dance?

I attended a wedding last year where the bride and groom danced to about 45sec to 1 min of their song. Is it normal to not play the full song? I thought it was very cute but a little too short for my taste. Do you plan on dancing to the whole song? What about for your father daughter dances?

Our song is 4 and a half minutes, but the last minute or so is instrumental, which we will cut out. As for the FOB/bride and MOG/groom, we are doing 90 seconds for each- basically just enough for the first verse and chorus.

We danced to most of our song. I felt like it was a second, but DH hates attention and signaled the DJ to cut it early, lol so maybe 2 minutes. My dad and I danced for the entire song because we were having a ton of fun.

We wanted ours as short as possible and requested the music fade out after 1 - 1 1/2 minutes! We had a last minute DJ fill in for our band who couldn't make it, and the first thing my dad said when we started dancing was "I hope they remember to fade out the song" Smiley smile

It's totally a personal choice though! There's nothing wrong with playing the full song, as long as the song isn't 10 minutes long or something!

I have no idea how long our song was, it was probaly like 3 minutes, but it felt like an eternity. It was so awkward.

We're just doing the beginning to Thinking out loud by Ed Sheeran. It's going to end it after the first chorus before he says "When my hair's all but gone and my memory fades" So our first dance is just over a minute I believe

We danced alone for 1 minute and then invited all of the couples to dance with us. I didn't like the idea of everyone stairing at us either but for a minute I can dealSmiley smile

We had a 3 minute song and my dad cut in to dance to half of it. It was so easy!

I don't like when people just dance for part of the song. I plan to dance to the whole thing

Our song is 4.5 minutes long but we are cutting it somewhere around the 2.5-3 minute mark wherever the verse ends.

Ours was 4 minutes long and we danced to every single second of it. We sang to each other, and we felt like the only people in the room. It was great. Wouldn't change a thing.

FH and I are doing a ballroom dance to Nat King Cole's L.O.V.E and its about 2 and a half mins. We'll definitely be cutting the mother/son and father/daughter dances down to about 45 sec though

We did a choreographed song that was a minute and a half. I thought this was so short and talked to our instructor about it. He made us stand there in silence for an entire minute and a half to demonstrate how loooooooooooong it really feels. Your guests have to sit there and do nothing for X amount of time, it can be quite boring.

We did 2 minutes which seemed way to short. I think 3 is perfect

I will keep the dances as short as possible also. I don't like a lot of attention on myself and neither does FH. The father daughter dance will be short as well, and my father and I are very close and I will probably be a sobbing mess the whole time through that. I choke up when I even think about songs to dance to with him.

I honestly don't think anyone wants to see anyone else dance a whole song. Make it short

FH & I will be dancing to the full song (approx. 7 min). Will feel awkward but will do it just for him.

Our song is just short of 3 minutes and I definitely want to dance to the whole thing, I've always loved the first dance at weddings- gets me all misty eyed, plus FH is a great dancer.

We danced the whole thing. We aren't the best dancers and we didn't practice, so it wasn't the best, but I enjoyed it Smiley laugh

Our song is about 3 and a half minutes. We are having others join us on the floor after two and a half minutes and then have our DJ go to another slow song.
