How long is your processional song?

FutureMrs.Davis, on March 1, 2016 at 7:48 PM Posted in Planning 1 12

My processional song is 2 minutes and 48 seconds long. During that time 4 sets of bridesmaid/ groomsmen and two sets of Oren's have to walk to aisle. The aisle is 60 feet, but we will be overlapping walkers (for lack of a better word) by 30 feet. I am so worried that my processional song isn't long enough, but I can't find an instrumental version of the song or an instrumental song that sounds similar.

How long is your processional song and how many people have to walk to it?

I think I did the math on this correctly: time yourself walking 30 feet in time with the music (at the speed you want the couples to walk). Multiply that time by 7, and that will give you the amount of time you need the music to fill.

Our processional song for the wedding party is a little under 4 minutes, (3 bridesmaids, 3 groomsman, flower girl, ring bearer.) My DJ said he may need to extend it for us. That is not including me, I have my own song I will be coming out to. I would talk to you DJ and see if he knows your venue, he may have a good idea. Our DJ is ALWAYS at our venue so he knows times pretty well and how long it will take.

Our venue has a crazy long "aisle" that's essentially just a long grass path through the vineyard to the ceremony site. I'm planning a 4 minute song for myself alone. But when the weather gets warmer, I plan on clocking the walk and playing the songs to see how they fit. You should try going to your venue and timing it out yourself.

ETA: Is that wedding date right? Maybe figure it out at the rehearsal and have a few backups in case you need more time?

I'm a DJ and I'll just say that unless you have instructed your bridal party to walk at a snail's pace, they will likely all be up at the front within 1 1/2 minutes. That said, if you're really worried about it, have the DJ queue up a second playing of the song and then mix that in so that it sounds like a long version of the song.

Or, you can always pick a second processional song just in case! Smiley smile

All that said, I don't think you'll have much of an issue. Almost all weddings I have DJ'd for have never gone over any of the ceremonial music - except for the Seating of the Mothers. But good DJs will prepare for these things and no one in the audience will even realize something was out-of-whack.

Best of luck and I hope your big day is amazing! Smiley smile Congrats!

I walked down to the same music as BP and there was a certain place where I was to make my entrance so it was important for everyone to get the speed just right. I was glad we had our rehearsal.

I actually have no idea whether they had to replay it (and how many times) but I'm almost sure that they had to play it at least twice, because the GM and the BM walked separately. We chose an instrumental version of Everlong (Foo Fighters) by the Vitamin String Quartet, so it wouldn't have been super obvious if/when they restarted the song.

Yes, the wedding date is March 4 (this Friday). I've been nervous about this for a while and I have a back up song, but I don't love it. I am really hoping we can squeeze it into the right amount of time. I'm panicking about it since the wedding is so close.

@Tim R, that helps SO much!!!! Thank you!

If you still find yourself short a bit, you can use a free audio editor to just have the chorus repeat an extra time! It's very very easy, I did it with the instrumental I had for our processional and no one even noticed!

Is 1:25 too long for just the bride? Idk what to do because that part of the song is perfect and makes me tear up every time.

This is hard to determine, sadly, because it depends on a # of factors such as the length of the aisle, how tall you are (and whomever you're walking with), your pace, etc.

I've seen it take 1.5 minutes for a bride to make it to the front and I've seen it take 30-45 seconds. I'd say about 1 minute is average, but it really depends on the aforementioned factors. I've also DJ'd weddings where the bridal party came, then I changed songs to what the bride wanted and had it play for 'x' time and signaled the Bride to come out with volume changes. All of this was planned prior to the start of the wedding while the bride's party was still getting dressed up. Works great.

The best thing for you to do is to figure out how many feet the aisle will be (from where you enter), then practice this at home with the person you're walking with. Time that and if it only takes you 30-45 seconds, what you might need to do is either play the song for a bit before you start walking or find a 'cut' version of the song if possible.

What song are you referring to? I may be able to edit it for you and give you a few timing options if you'd like.

At the end of the day, it's all about you and your soon-to-be husband, so if you want the whole song to play, then by God that's what's going to happen because that's what YOU want.

But definitely test it first and see, then make sure you have a rehearsal to get it just right. Smiley smile

Our processional song is 3:35. I have 2 Bride's Maid's & 1 Maid of Honor. Our aisle is approx. 100 feet. How long should each walk down the aisle? My Mother is being pushed in her wheelchair next to me.
