How long to budget for gown alterations?

A, on July 7, 2021 at 5:19 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 15
Hi everyone! Curious as to peoples experiences this year with wedding dress alteration timelines, I know it is different depending on the area and the density of alteration shop options…. I do not need anything taken in or let out, I just need the dress hemmed, the straps shortened a bit, and cups/a strapless bra sewn in… Thoughts on how far in advance I should get this done? My wedding is October 16 of this year. Attached is a photo of my dress! How long to budget for gown alterations? 1

As a fellow October bride my dress is already in alterations and I’ll be getting it back next month. I was told that alterations take a minimum of a month. Also with the number of brides going in getting an appointment is another issue in itself. I literally went through a whole month of dates where they absolutely had nothing available.

Your dress is STUNNING!! I LOVE IT!! Smiley love

I would say, get it done now - you don't want to wait any longer - especially since your alterations have nothing to do with weight - so it's nothing that'll have to be re-fixed.

I want quite a bit done (hemming, taking up straps, fixing the underlayers, maybe adding sleeves) so was told 3 months. I would definitely inquire about availability and look to book your appointment, as good alterations people tend to book out.

October bride here! My dress is in alterations now, I had my first appointment last Thursday and have my second scheduled for late August. The boutique I bought my dress from is also doing alterations; they said they are slammed with all the postponements so I definitely suggest getting started quickly! They suggest 12 weeks from the wedding date.

My dress took 6 weeks which was the average amount of time I was told by other seamstresses.

6-8 weeks is what Kleinfeld requested for my dress to begin alterations. They want to make sure you have the smallest chance possible of having size changes or anything.

It likely won’t take long to do what you need but I would get it done and get it off your list. My daughter is getting married October 2 and all of her alterations are finished and she has her dress ready.

My wedding is October 30th and my first fitting is scheduled for July 18th. When I made the appointment, the seamstress actually said it was early and that I had a lot of time. She was very detailed in her explanations, timelines and suggestions. Her preference was for brides not to come too early. So I might push it back to the beginning of August.

My wedding is October 22 and my dress hasn’t come in yet. I ordered it in February so I expect for it to arrive late this month and start alterations in august

Probably best to find a good seamstress now and then ask what their recommendation is. My seamstress is now turning brides away because she just does not have any more availability.

My wedding is in August, my first fitting was early June. Second fitting 2 weeks later. Final fitting next week. Dress ready for pick up August 1st.
They had to take my dress in 4 inches. Hem it up about 5 inches. Cups put in and a 7 point bussel (I don't think I spelled that correctly). All of that is costing me $530 which is less than I budgeted.

My reception is October 2 and I have my first alterations appointment on August 1, the seamstress told me 6-8 weeks was normal when I inquired about it. It doesn't seem like you need much done so I would assume that it won't take as long

I am also an October bride! I took mine into alterations (just to be hemmed) at the end of June and I will be picking it up the last week in July. So I would give or take a month for those alterations to be done!
