How long to get ready?

K, on February 6, 2020 at 2:24 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 11
So, I'm wondering about timeline. I have 2 ladies in my bridal party. I'm paying for: their makeup, my mother and MIL's makeup, my hair and makeup, and hair for my 4 year old flower girl. If I want to be done for first look by 2:30, what time do I need to start? My ladies may choose to get their hair done too. I know it's a small group, but should I think about hiring a second stylist?

Have you hired your hair stylist and MUA yet? They should be able to tell you how much time they'll need based on the number of people. All artists are different in how long it takes them to do their work, but I've heard to estimate at least an hour per service (hair or makeup) for the bride depending on the style and about 45 minutes per service for attendants. It may not take quite that long, but it's always better to overestimate on time than underestimate! Also depending on the time of your ceremony, your attendants could still be having their hair/makeup done during your first look since it will just be you and your FS.

It depends on the stylist, and on the style. One of my bridesmaids is a hair stylist so she did her own and all my other girls' hair... each one took 30 minutes. I had a separate hair stylist for myself, and my style took 90 minutes.

So it's really hard to say, you'll need to get an estimate from your stylist!

We are having 9 people get both their hair and makeup and are having two stylists. You might be fine with just one bit it depends on how long of time it will take to do each person. I think every MUA is different. We are doing first look at 1:30 and starting at 9

We did our first look at 130p or 2p and I remember we got ready at around 2.5 or so hours beforehand

I wanted myself and all my girls done at 1:00pm (ceremony at 3pm - first look at 1:30pm). We have 8 people getting services done, and my HMUA & her assistant are starting on everyone at 8am so we can have a little wiggle room on time.

Good point. Yes, I hired one person for both. She can get an assistant though. Agreed on overestimating! I always do that :-) I hadn't thought about the fact that they could continue during the first look, although after I would want to take pictures of family and wedding party.

I planned for 45 minutes per service for bridesmaids, mom's and flower girl. Then 1 hour per service for me. I hired 4 stylists for 13 women.

I have my first look scheduled at 2:30 also. We have two people doing hair/makeup for me and my 6 bridesmaids starting at 10:00am.

I let my MUA decide the timeline. I just told them we need to be ready by X and they let me know their timeframe, they're the experts!

I have 4 girls and myself. Plus 2 flower girls. But we are starting at 9am and ceremony is at 2pm. But we are getting ready at the venue then being picked up to go to the church.
