How many apps?

How many varieties of apps did you pick for your cocktail hour? Our caterer suggests 5-6 different ones, I feel like that's a lot? How many did you all have? His food is amazing, and I'm sure he knows what he's talking about, I'm just curious.

We're doing 3 but I might add a 4th one depending on our numbers.

We have 4 passed apps. 1 meat, 1 vegetarian, 1 vegan, and 1 fish. It just happened to work out that way from what we liked.

ETA: They prepare 2 per person so each person will have 8 apps. But I was also told they make about 20% extra for apps and late night snacks.

We did 3 with cheese and fruit platters. It was plenty. We also served dinner 30 minutes after cocktail hour so it's not like anyone was starving.

I think the number sounds good. As someone who doesn't eat sugar or grains (keto diet), I would probably have a difficult time finding something to eat if there were only 2 or 3 apps.

I think we are having 6 passed apps-- we didn't order equal quantities of each, but ordered more of ones we thought might be more popular.

We did 3 passed appetizers and an artisan cheese/vegetable/fruit with dips and breads station. It was plenty.

4-6 types, 8-10 pcs per person total. People will eat more pigs in a blanket than caviar on potato pancakes. Add, at the very least, a cold station with fruit, cheese, crudites. (I personally don't understand cocktail hour stations with salads, but that's just me....)

People are starving at cocktail hour. Four or five pieces are not nearly enough.

We only had 3 app stations - but our wedding was only about 65 people. We had a crudité (veggie) tray with dip, smoked fish spread and a fruit and cheese display.

We are doing 5 apps, as cocktail hour literally should only be an hour.

ETA: I should add that there will only be about 45-50 people, so hopefully that is enough.
