How many bartenders?

Chelsea, on February 28, 2017 at 2:45 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 21

Hi all,

Getting down to the wire and need to decide on bartenders. They suggest 1 bartender per 75 guests. We're having a full open bar (beer/wine/liquor) for 91 adults (including me and FH). I'd say about 85 of these adults will be drinking. The venue just sent us the final bill and they entered 2 bartenders. They said we could drop it down to 1, but "just be aware your guests will have to wait for service."

Wanted to get your input on this. I've only been to weddings with 150 people, so they obviously had more than one bartender on hand.

Can you tell me how many guests you had/are having at your wedding and how many bartenders? I don't want there to be a long bar line of course, but if 1 bartender will be sufficient, I'd rather not spend the extra money on a second.

My venue does 1 bartender for every 100 guests. I will be having 2 bartenders- we invited 167.

I've heard 1 bartender for every 50 people so I think I would go with 2 just to be safe, but that's just me.

Our venue does 1 bartender for every 100. We had 80 people and upgraded to two bars. I'm glad we did.

If your venue recommends at least 2, do that. My family is full of heavy drinkers, so our venue recommended extra bartenders.

Cocktail hour will be the busiest time. I think 2 would be better but you can get by with 1 for the amount of people.

I've bartended my fair share of weddings and would not feel comfortable being on my own with 91 guests. You will need 2 bartenders to give your guests good service, people get grumpy when they have to wait too long for booze and you're doing a full open bar it will take longer to concoct their drinks. It's worth the money.

You don't want your guests waiting a while at the bar when they can be on the dancefloor. I'd go with two.

I would do two. I feel 1 for close to 100 guests isn't sufficient, and you'd end up with a constant line. If the venue suggested it, I'd definitely do it then.

One per 75 guests plus tables of wine and sig drinks when they enter so there is no backup at the beginning.

We are having 1 bartender; our guest list is no more than 75, with more than half being big drinkers.

All of my bartenders reviews say they loved how he handled the crowd. So I'm hiring him alone for 100 guest... about 75% will drink.

We are doing 3 bartenders for 130 people. Now I'm wondering if the bartending lady talked me into more then I needed. Urggggg now I feel like I was ripped off.

Our venue supplied 1 bartender for 50 guests. We had 225 adult guests, so they would only give us 4. We paid for 2 more bartenders, because bar lines can sometimes be ridiculous. We also had servers with trays of white and red wine available, as our guests entered the cocktail hour room, to cut down on the initial lines.
