How many Bridal Shower guests?

Christine, on March 14, 2015 at 3:28 PM Posted in Planning 15 27

I'm planning a bridal shower and the bride's told me there are 50 people to invite...a number that her FSIL told me will apparently go UP because that doesn't even include women from his side...am I crazy in thinking that's a HUGE number of people for a shower? I was thinking more like...20-30 tops.

How many people were invited/attended your showers?

My family's showers are always really large. 20-30 people are at birthday parties. More like 50-75 at showers. We may or may not tend to go a little overboard. With everything. ETA: I went to my cousins baby shower about 2 years ago and there was easily 100 people there. We have a large extended family.

My MOH and FMIL are each planning one.

The one with my MOH will be approx. 30 people, and the one with my FMIL will be approx. 40 people. The only people invited to both are my BMs.

So I haven't really met any of FH's family. For that reason my mom only invited his mom, sis, and brothers' girlfriends. Everyone else invited are my friends and family. That said, basically everybody is out of town so it's going to be small regardless. I think 50 is definitely a lot, but how many of them do you think will actually come?

Wow, so I guess those numbers aren't far off.

C&S-Maybe separate showers will be the way to go..

We have about 45-50 invited and that's primarily from my side. FH's side has like 10 or so people that are in that count. Lol

I just did a rough list real quick off the top of my head and came up with 50 women to invite and I know I missed some.

June- Majority of them are local, so I think if they're invited there's a high likelihood of them showing.

I plan on having about 30-35 guests. In my hometown so the ppl where I live wont be there an none of fh's family because they are also out of state from the shower. So if we were all in the same city I could see how the guest list would be 50+. Idk about you but I never expect a real meal or alcohol at showers usually finger foods/appetizers and champaign or wine if any alcohol at all. So the amount of ppl doesnt hit the pockets as hard. Where are you planning to have the shower?

Faran- We don't have a location yet, trying to figure out the guest list for sure so we can plan accordingly.

If you're planning it, you tell HER how many guests you can afford to host and she can adjust her guest list from there. She can't just order you (and other BP members/family if participating) to host 50-80 people and expect you to foot the bill.

Are you the MOH or a BM? My moh is hosting my shower but she got tge venue free from my aunt. The BMs are also helping. Dont think bc your the host you have to do everything. Im sure one of those 50+ can help whether its w/ venue, decore, rentals, or food/desserts/drinks something

We're having 2 different showers. One in his hometown, which will probably have about 20-25 people. One in my hometown, which will have about 35-40.

If we both were from the same place, we'd probably have the amount you're having in attendance, Christine.

I'm the MOH. I've been planning with FSIL (matron of honor) and I wanna reach out to the other bms soon. We'll also get family and the guests involved. The plan is to do a brunch/recipe shower, where everyone brings their specialty brunch dish and a recipe card for the bride, so that'd help with the food costs. It's just a matter of finding a space big enough.

You ladies are popular! I'm having maybe 15 people invited to mine? That doesn't include any family or BM's though because all but one BM are out of town. So yeah, just friends.

Silan-I feel the same way, haha. If I even end up having one, I doubt I'd have that many people attending.

Chrissy- You ladies are helping me make sense of this, that it's not a crazy number! I'l definitely be taking all the help I can get, especially since I'm planning it from overseas and won't even get to attend. I'm trying to help them with groundwork first.

I know that every woman who is invited to the wedding will be invited to the bridal shower, so approximately 45. No children will be invited.

In my family its customary for all women who are invited to the wedding, be invited to the bridal shower.

A&J- Yeah, that's how they're calculating the guest list too, all women invited to the wedding.

I'm co-hosting a shower tomorrow. We had a difficult time dealing with the MIL/FMIL as they each wanted to invite 30 people. We finally got them to agree to 10 each and the bride invited 30 people. All in all, there will be 65 people at the shower tomorrow.

KitandKaboodle-Where will the shower be? Someone's home or an outside venue?

The bride's grandfather is a member of the Elk's club, so they are allowing us to use their facility, kitchen, tables, chairs and dinnerware for $200. We just have to clean up the kitchen afterwards.
