How many bridesmaids are too many?

Nope! I had 8 or 9 for my 1st wedding.. can't remember exactly. It was mostly because my ex-husband kept adding his friends and I wanted the sides to be even.


Have as many as you like, but make sure you really want them all involved. The larger your wedding party the more likely things are to get frustrating.

8 isn’t too many especially if they are already being super helpful. I have 9 (2 sisters, SIL, cousin, 2 friends and 3 nieces) and so far it hasn’t been a problem.

Personally, 8 would be too many. Anything more than 4 is overkill, again, in my opinion.

Girl, you do you!!!! You have however many bridesmaids you want! I'm only having three and honestly I'm happy with my choice. As long as you are happy with it then go for it! ❤

Definitely a personal preference, and I would also think about 1.) the total size of your guest list (aka will there be more people standing than sitting if you have a lot of bridesmaids), 2.) do you care about having equal number of bridesmaids/groomsmen, and if so, do you have enough guys to do it, and 3.) will it create any uncomfortable social dynamics (such as having all but 1-2 friends from a certain group as bridesmaids). My cousin had 8 when she got married and it was lovely. I'm having 3, but that's because it would've gotten into social drama territory if I had any more than that. How far into the planning process are you/when did you ask everyone else. I think it would be kinda weird if there's a big gap. Like hey, you didn't make the original cut, but now I'm asking you. It might also come off like your original bridemaids weren't good enough. But to answer your question, I wouldn't say that 8 is too many if that's what you want to do.

I have 7 (1 bridesman and 6 bridesmaids) and my fiancé has 6 (1 groomsgirl and 5 groomsmen). I would have had more but my fiancé made me shrink my list bc he has fewer friends than me and he didn’t want us to have super unbalanced parties. However, as others have mentioned, I’m spending a lot of money because I’m paying for hair/makeup for everyone (plus flower girls, sisters, MIL) and buying everyone gifts. I’m turning 35 next month and have a good job so I can afford this and it’s no big deal to me but it’s a good thing to keep in mind if your budget is tighter. So far it has not been drama bc I chose people who wouldn’t be drama (if I had included my sisters as bridesmaids there would have been drama). I have been a bridesmaid in bridal parties ranging from 3 to 9. Do what you want!

I have 8! I also have a friend who cut her bridesmaids from 6 to 3 a few weeks before the big day because she was so mad at them. Remember it’s your day 😁
