How many dresses did you try on before saying "yes?"

I went dress shopping yesterday for the first time and found a dress I think may be "the one." My girls were there and we all loved it and thought it was glamorous and suited me... fairly simple lace sheath (not at all what I thought i was looking for!) - while plain it was classy, flattering, and had the chic sophisticated look I want. But we all agreed I should not order a dress on "day one." BM 1 was not satisfied with the service we got and felt like I didn't try on enough... and while I don't know if I agree with her, I do understand not jumping in too quick... a dress is a commitment...

so my question is how many dresses did you try on before saying yes? And did you "sleep on it" before taking the plunge? How did you know you found "the one?"

Thanks!!!

I tried on 4 dresses. But... I went four different times. I went by myself the first time, with my mom the second time, my whole bridal party the third time and the day I went to go buy it I went by myself again and tried it on to make sure.

    It's GORGEOUS!!!

My shopping trip was also "just for fun"- I haven't even been engaged a month yet! the LAST thing I expected was to even be considering a dress....

We shall see what happens! My BMs have scheduled another shopping trip in a couple weeks so I am going to hold off until then. Nothing is going to disappear between now an then, and if it does, it wasn't meant to be.

I tried on a lot. I tried on different styles, beading, no beading, lace, no lace. I tried it all. I went in thinking I was going to buy a mermaid dress, decided I hated the mermaid dress. I ended up being torn between two ballgowns. And then slept on it, literally took a week to pick between both and ended up going with a super extra ballgown Smiley smile

Maybe 15-20 between two different shops.
I found my dress at the second shop I went to and it wasn’t maybe the 5th dress I tried. I did “sleep on it” but I knew it was the one. My face lit up when I had it on and I didn’t have the same reaction to the other dresses I tried on.

I don't even remember how many. At least 12-15. I doubled back to a local boutique to see if they had a dress I had fallen in love with out of town, but still lacked one feature I really wanted. The owner brought in The One for me to try on and it was instant love. I stood on the pedestal, didn't want to take it off. That's when I knew. I felt like I should sleep on it, but the looks on my Mom and MOH's faces said it all for me.

I found my dress the first time I went shopping but I tried on 10. The store owner actually suggested for me to try on the dress because I was not in love with anything else. I’m glad she did because I would have never seen myself in something like it.

I tried on 7 or 8 dresses total, my dress was number 4. I loved it but wasn't 100% so I tried on a couple more but then ended up putting mine back on then knew for sure it was the one!

I tried on 5 dresses, then THE DRESS, then one more just to be sure. I put the other dress back on and knew without a doubt!

I tried on 3, bought #2. I honestly wish I had tried on more, I liked my dress and received many compliments but I slightly regret not trying on other styles just for the experience of it. I never tried on a traditional ball gown, and lets be real, I'll probably never get an opportunity to do so again. I know it's a silly thing, because I'm 99% certain I would never have picked something elaborate (I also went with a simple lace sheath dress) but it would have been fun to try.

I don't even know....maybe 10 before trying on the dress I eventually bought, and then maybe a dozen after that (I went to several stores). Spent one weekend going to 3 stores with my parents (BHLDN, David's, and a secondhand shop) where I didn't really like much, then did an impromptu trip with my mother-in-law where I did try on what was ultimately "my" dress, but thought my parents might be upset if I bought the dress without them there. Finally, did another day of dress shopping with my parents where I picked the exact same dress out in two other stores (and tried on a ton of others). The shop I where I tried it on the second time was overpriced, though, so I waited until I went home to order it from a different shop.

I kind of disagree with the, "if you could leave the store, it's not your dress," sentiment. You can order the exact same dress from multiple stores, there's no reason you have to put in the order on the spot unless you're running short on time. Trying on dozens of dresses is what made me completely sure that my initial feelings about my dress were right, and I had no doubts about what else there could be out there. That said, I'm by nature risk-adverse and very careful with big purchases, so I get uncomfortable with making emotional decisions.

I tried on 30-40 in one day. The last one I put on was the one. I refused to put anything else on or change. That was the dress for me. I also wasn't expecting to find something so early.

I tried on at least 50 dresses in 6 different shops before buying one, regretting it, and then buying another one that was the complete opposite of what I thought I wanted to wear, but I couldn't stop thinking about. So yes, I did "sleep on" my dress for about 2 weeks before going back to order it.

Well over 100.... I had a very specific vision for what I wanted my dress to be and absolutely nothing hit those things until my dress. I wanted my dress to be more of a blush color which is hard by itself because not every designer does a blush. Then I ran into different designer's "blush" being more yellow or more of a champagne than a blush. Even had a couple dresses that I fell in love with on in a white sample, only to find out that they were not sold in blush. I've always been a picky person, but that side of me reaaalllly came out wedding dress shopping. After finding my dress I had another appointment at a different salon that charged a $50 fee for cancelling your appointment day of. I didn't want to be charged that so I held off on ordering and went to the next appointment anyway. There were several dresses there that I put on that were insanely beautiful (including one I had printed as something I loved) but I just kept comparing to my dress. After that appointment we called the store back and ordered over the phone. So I suppose I slept on it for about an hour and a half.

I chose the 3rd or 4th dress I tried on, and ordered it right then and there. It's perfect!

I tried on 8 dresses, dress 8 was the one. I knew it was the one before I even put it on. First day trying dresses on and found the perfect dress.

None...but let me explain, my spouse and I had a themed wedding (Renaissance fair/ time traveler) and so I actually browsed fairs and festivals, etsy shops online and such before I found my wedding dress. I ended up going with a simple black wool dress with red accents on the cuffs and collar that looked great with my sword belt. When I found the dress at the etsy shop it was a 'this looks cool' at first site. Simple, tough, and would look great with my sword belt. So my wife helped me get the measurements and two months later I got a package from Warsaw Poland with my dress in it. If the dress speaks to you and you feel like it is 'the one', GOT FOR IT!!!! Make sure you test fit it again a month or two before your big day in case you need it modified (or you need to modify yourself), but you will know if it is 'the dress'.

I probably tried on about 30 dresses between two salons. The dress I ended up getting was one I probably tried on 10th at the first salon. I know I struggled a little because the first salon just my mom and I went to and then in the second my mom and all my bridesmaids went. At the second salon I found a dress I liked as well and all my bridesmaids were trying to convince me to get it but I was unsure because there was another dress I liked just as much at the first salon. One thing that helped me me was I looked at pictures of those dresses online. I started to notice that the things I liked about the second dress were so subtle that they didn't even show up in pictures, then it easily swayed me towards the first dress because I knew it would look fabulous the day of and in pictures.

I tried on about 15 for and to see what styles looked good on my body (had weight loss surgery and wanted to try things on my "new" body), without anyone with me. I knew I wouldn't buy one without my grandma (she adopted me) and my BFF. When the three of us went out I only needed to try on 2 the one I was almost certain I wanted based on photos, and the one I thought my gma would like better. We went with the first one, and still had time during my appointment for my BFF to try on bridesmaid dresses.
