How many gallons of a signature drink do I need?

Brooke, on July 10, 2016 at 10:13 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 3 14

Hi! I am planning on doing wine and beer at our wedding with one signature drink. I invited a little over 200 people so I'm guessing 150-160 will come. How many gallons of the signature drink should I plan on?

Hi, Brooke P. Do you have a lot

of OOT guests you anticipate not attending your wedding? Assuming 40-50 people won't attend your wedding is a very high (and traditionally unlikely) attrition rate.

How many ounces do your cups hold and how many servings do you think you will need?

Did you hire a bartender to serve? They may be able to help with amount you need.

I have quite a few college friends from out of town and some people from my church we had to invite but probably will not come. Our venue is an hour drive away from home so I am assuming a lot of people will not drink a lot. We are using mason jars for our cups. It's a fruity drink so I do not think that guys will be drinking it as much.

We are having someone from the venue serve alcohol but the owner doesn't know the amount of alcohol needed

I'll do the calculation for you, but you have to help a bit. How many ounces do the mason jars hold?

Brooke: you're making a lot of poor assumptions. If we were attending a we'd like that were going to drink at all, we would probably go ahead and get a hotel room there where the wedding is to avoid driving. We typically don't drink, but when when we do, we BOTH drink the "fruity" drinks.

Have enough for your ENTIRE guest list. Don't just assume a percentage won't come to a wedding that close by.

A gallon is 128 ounces. At a guess, you will need 8 to 10 ounces for each mason jar if you also fill the glass with ice. So, you would get 12 to 16 servings per gallon. If you have 5 gallons, you could serve approximately 60 to 90 servings. How many servings you will get per gallon will depend on the amount of ice used in the mason jars so take this calculation as a guide. I would err on the side of fewer servings per gallon and have at least one more gallon than I think I'll need. I'm one of those people who always want to have more than enough rather than run out.

Thank you SO MUCH! We were planning on having enough for 15 gallons, so that definitely reassures me!

15 gallons is only enough to for 180-200 servings. That's enough for 1 drink per person. Many people will have 2-4 drinks. I'd get at least 30 gallons... If not 45.

They are also having beer and wine. I don't think they would need enough signature drink so that everyone can have multiple servings of it because, chances are, many will also drink either beer or wine. I do agree that the guys will tend to stick with beer.

She is also serving beer and wine, so I would think that one serving, per person, would work as many will have one serving of the signature drink and then move to beer or wine.

A lot of people don't like to mix (myself included). If I started drinking the sig drink I'd most likely stick with it the whole night. I would allow for at least 3 drinks per person. The last thing you want is to run out.
