How many gifts is too many to register for?

Malia, on November 19, 2021 at 4:42 PM Posted in Registry 2 8
Hi, y’all! I’m just curious what y’all think about registry volume. Our guest list is 216 people, I’m having three bridal showers (one in Indiana, Pennsylvania, and Texas), and our Houston wedding is basically a destination wedding for about 130 guests. We figure a lot of guests (especially larger families) will likely decline their wedding attendance and send a gift in their place, as travel is going to be very expensive. I currently have about 360 gifts on the registry based on how the website is counting them (for example, 4x Individual Dinner Plate = 4 gifts). Do y’all think that’s too many? Too few? FH and I will be getting married a month after our college graduation, so we don’t have an established collection of housewares just yet, if that makes a difference! Thanks in advance for your input!

You can have as many or as few items on your list as you find necessary and convenient - just make sure that you have a range of price points.

The nice thing is, even if no one purchases an item for you, you can take advantage of the registry fulfillment discounts that many places offer.

There’s no limit. A registry is a wish list of stuff you want and need that you would not spend your own money on. But guests want to purchase gifts and want to know what you need and want. Otherwise you will get stuff you don’t want and can’t return anywhere. Cash is not always the automatic alternative gift in every social circle.

What are you interested in? It makes more sense to purchase dishes and cutlery as sets rather than individual. It’s easier on guests as well. Everyone can use upgrades and duplicates of certain items such as bedding, towels, etc. Think outside the box too: do you need a shredder or safe for the home office? Do you entertain guests frequently? Get things related to that. What are your shared hobbies?

You can have as many items on your registry as you'd like. Am I understanding that you're inviting 216 people but expecting 130? Can your venue hold 216 if by chance they all show up?

Excellent question. Never invite more than you can afford and the venue can accommodate. Are some of these B and C listers?

Our venue can hold 200! We’re only expecting such a small number in relation to our guest list because FH’s side has a lot of big families (like 5-7 kids big) that likely can’t afford to travel such a long distance (they’re all in Pittsburgh, Ohio, and Indiana)

Also, we’re expecting more than 130 (more like 150-160), but I was saying that it’ll be a destination wedding for about 130 of the guests (as in, it’ll be more than 6 hours of travel by car, they’ll need hotels, and will have to rent cars if they fly)

I registered for them individually because I have 4 place settings of the collection I started already (Crate & Barrel Aspen), so I just registered for an additional 4 of everything in the set (salad plate, dinner plate, low bowl, cereal bowl, mug, teacup) — all of the pieces are $5-6 each, so I figured it wouldn’t be to hard on the wallet if anyone wanted to buy all 4 pieces! Thanks for the other advice though! I definitely think we’ll be more of an entertaining couple, so I added some fun bar ware tools and serving dishes Smiley smile

I always appreciate a registry with tons of items to choose from, so I can find something most meaningful to me and in my price range. Load that thing up honey!
