How many glasses to register for?

Bride2Be, on July 6, 2021 at 11:39 AM Posted in Registry 0 16
So I keep going back and forth on whether to register for 4 or 8 glasses? We’ve picked out a tall skinny glass and a shorter stout drinking glass and also some small acrylic cups (and red wine/white wine, and champagne flutes). I feel like I’m supposed to do 8 in case any break but it’s just the 2 of us right now and for the next five years we will be kid free and still in an apartment. I plan on being a host family for events and holidays when we get a house so should we register for 8 of everything so we are ready and have it? Or just 4 of everything for now? We are definitely wine drinkers and when we have friends over I guess it might be good to have extras?

What did everyone else do and did you regret going one way or the other?

Definitely do 8. I’m in a similar situation. We have boxes of gifts unopened still because we figure we’ll keep 4 of each out for now until we need the rest we’ll keep them boxed up. You also want them same amount of classes as plates, etc and 4 place settings isn’t enough.

We actually have a set of 24 (12 tall, 12 short) and it's been perfect for the 2 of us. If we're both home then we use them enough that we usually end up with 4 or 6 in the dishwasher before we run it. We also have a set of 8 for dinnerware and that's not usually enough for get togethers and I wish we had 12. I'd say go with the bigger sets because it's nice to have too many and you can't suddenly make more appear when you need them if you don't have enough.

Good idea! We also figured we wouldn’t register for plates since we have like 6 right now and we would just buy a new set once we actually move into a house and our taste might change by then. I would personally like to register and get matching plates but my fiancé would rather have other stuff from the registry rather than get plates 🙄

That’s good to know! Do you wish you had registered for more plate sets? I have 10 sets of silverware, placemats, and napkins in 2 colors on the registry. We’re waiting to buy new plates for when we move into a house in 5 years but we only have like 6 plates (6small &6 big) not matching. My FH doesn’t want to register for a plate set since we won’t have a house yet ☹️

When FH and I first moved in together, we started with 4 of everything (plates, bowls, silverware sets, etc.) and were constantly having to run the dishwasher. We upgraded to 8 of everything and feel like that's a good number for now, and we'll probably buy another set of 4 to get us to 12 once we move into a bigger house with space to host more people. I'd suggest starting with 8 tall and 8 short glasses - we tend to use the tall ones daily and the short ones for cocktails, juice, etc.

    I would do 8!

our dining table is set for 6 and a lot of things people gave me were only set of 4! so i definitely think for hosting larger amounts of people or just mixing it up, 8 is better

We've been living together for 4 years so we got our plates from IKEA like 3 years ago lol. We originally grabbed a set of 6 (since you just grab as many as you want) and bought 2 more sets next time we went because 6 wasn't enough. Now I wish we had grabbed 6 more total for the set of 12.

We don't currently have a plate set on our registry because we haven't found a set that we like more than our IKEA plates lol. We might just go back sometime and grab more plates to add to our current set since we really like them and they match our kitchen so well. I do plan on putting extra forks on our registry though because we manage to use forks like crazy and run out like twice as often as our other silverware for some reason.

Get 8 unless you plan to do dishes frequently. You never know when you will have company over.

I am the type of person who would rather have way more than needed than not have enough. There's nothing wrong with registering for extra and if someone doesn't buy them all you can always purchase another if you feel like you need it!

Def. 8, especially since you've said that you'd like to host events and family gatherings!

If you aren't opposed to the idea, I'd also suggest even registering for more than 8, more around the 12 range. We did this just in case we have a lot of people over at one time, or something gets broken and we need an extra before we can order a replacement!

Think it depends what you think you’d need. I’m in a large family (oldest of 5) and we got sets of 12 for now so if my family is over and brings a plus one we have enough plates/cups/ etc.
