How many hours of photo and video do you really need?

The Sealpups, on April 23, 2019 at 8:48 PM Posted in Planning 0 5

Photos and video are important to my fiancé and I. Both of our families have been taking pictures and recording events since we've been born. With photography, we were able to get a good deal with pictures (free engagement shoot).

Prices: $1200 - 4 hours; $1800 - 6 hours; $2400 - 8 hours

We both love the cinematic style of videography. We've noticed that the average prices of videography in our state is from $3,000-$8,000. The videographer prices are:

A. $3,000 for 6 Hours of Continuous Coverage, 3 to 4 Minute HD Highlight Film, Professionally Recorded Audio,

Digitally Delivered

B. $3,600 for 8 Hours of Continuous Coverage, 4 to 5 Minute HD Highlight Film, 30 Second Wedding Film Trailer,

Full Edit of Ceremony and Toasts, Professionally Recorded Audio, Digitally Delivered

Our schedule consists of 3.5 hours of church time - first look, family pictures, ceremony (hour), last hour for bridal party/groomsmen pictures.

We're doing a pre-reception party on the patio at our venue (just a longer cocktail hour - time will be an hour and a half).*** Should photographer and videographer be taking footage of this? Maybe 15 minutes of this?

RECEPTION START 6:00PM (10 minutes): Introduction, wedding party entrance

DINNER 6:15 PM (A little over an hour)

Dinner starts (*I'm assuming vendors won't count this hour because they'll be eating).

*NOTE: Bride & groom pics near sunset during dinner. Sunset is at 7:50pm; couple pics around 7:30PM

TOASTS: 7:45 (10 minutes)

CAKE CUTTING, DISTRIBUTING, DANCES: 8:00PM (20-25 minutes)

BOUQUET TOSS 8:45PM

NEWLYWED “THANK YOUs” 9:00PM

DANCE by 9:10PM - midnight

QUESTIONS for videography:

- how many hours do you really need? Ceremony is important but do you need "getting ready" footage or footage of bridal party/groomsmen pictures?

- what were your experiences?

I don't want to regret not having enough hours but at the same time, we're on a budget and would only want to purchase what we would need.

THANK YOU! Any input would be appreciated! (Also, they don't charge consecutively, so with an hour gap, they won't charge it. I'm assuming they won't charge dinner also)

I didn’t have videography but for photography we did 9 hours of coverage. She got there at 1 to take some detail shots, and I got in my dress at 1:30. First look with my dad at 2 followed by first look with my husband. Wedding party pictures followed by ketubah signing then ceremony at 4. Our exit was at 10pm. I’ve never heard of the photographer not counting when they’re eating. Mine took 10 or 15 minutes to eat then was back photographing. I have no regrets about not having a bunch of getting ready pictures.

We are doing 6 hours with 2 photographers & 6 hours with 2 videographers & 1 drone operator. Our ceremony starts at 5:30pm, so photos/video will start around 3:00 or so to get our first look and all of that stuff. We are going to knock out all of the bridal party photos as well since we will all be fresh from hair and makeup. We will be back in our suites around 5:00pm and the photographers/videographers will do detail stuff at that point. Our ceremony will only be around 30 minutes. Then we have a cocktail hour, where more photos will be taken. Then reception. We have decided to do a “mock exit” around 8:30pm so that our photographers/videographers can get everyone before people start to leave (for those who want to leave a little early) and so you don’t need worry about running out of time to get photos of your exit.
I hope this helps at least some! 🙂

Not married yet. But we are getting 8+ hours of photography with 2 shooters. They do not leave until the actual send off. Our videographers (husband and wife team) hang with us all day! From getting ready to send off, which I'm super happy about!

Daughter's photographer was nearly 12 hours (11 am for "getting ready"/detail shots till 10:30 pm taking pics of the B&G alone on the dance floor at the end of the night; photos are absolutely gorgeous; 2nd shooter was about 11 am - 8 pm). Videographer was 7 hours (1 pm at the venue for first look through 8 pm, after cake cutting). They ended up with 1144 fully-edited photos and all digital access rights, all video raw footage and an 8 min highlights video (still waiting on that). Photographer was $2700 (with paid in full & cash discounts at booking) and videographer was about $1700 -- both in So Cal.

We are doing something very similar to this as well. We have two photographers for 10 hours. They are coming at noon to do detail shots and a few getting ready pictures of me and my girls as well as groomsmen pictures. I'm getting in my dress at 1:30. First look is at 2. Wedding party pictures to follow then ceremony starts at 4. Our exit will also be at 10pm.
