How many kippot or benchers did you have at your Jewish wedding?

Rachel, on January 7, 2014 at 4:03 PM Posted in Planning 0 5

Are there any Jewish brides out there who had yarmulkes/kippot and benchers (grace after meals booklets) at their wedding? I'd love to know how many of each you ordered, how many total guests you had, and how many of each you were left with.

I am planning a Conservative Jewish wedding with 200-250 guests from across the religious/Jewish denomination spectrum (non-Jewish guests as well as Reform, Conservative, and Orthodox Jews). It seems that at most of my friends' Jewish weddings that had benchers, a ton were leftover because few of the non-Jewish and Reform guests took them. I'd love a way to estimate so that we have plenty for everyone who wants, regardless of their background, but also don't end the night with 150 extras!

Hey. I am not doing benchers. No idea what they are haha. I am having a conservative Jewish wedding. In terms of kippot, I am waiting until I get more RSVPs back to determine the total number. I will probably order 75 since my wedding is for approximately 150 guests and only the men are required to wear them. It only takes a couple weeks to get them so I am going to wait til beginning of february to order them. I am sure all of them will be left over as I do not foresee anyone taking theirs home as a keepsake.

Well, as far as kippot go, if you are doing a temple wedding, and your temple requires them, well, id say one per male guest. As far as benchers, 20-30 percent, likely.

No benchers here. I'm expecting 125 at the most, and I went ahead and ordered 50. I personally am not comfortable waiting 2 weeks before, so this is a calculated risk! We will be having our wedding at a resort, not a synagogue, so not as strict requirement to wear them. There will be some non-Jews, and I'm not expecting them to wear one. Some people also may bring their own. Good luck!

I'm doing things kind of similar to Ms. Pepe minus having it at a resort. We rented another room for our ceremony in our banquet hall and since FHs family isnt Jewish, I dont expect them to wear one so I didn't order too many.

We had a total of 169 guests RSVP yes to our wedding from 86 individual households. When people take benchers, it's usually 1 per household, so we ordered 100 in each wanted and then some extras. 153 guests from 80 individual households actually attended the wedding and we were surprised that only 35 benchers were taken, leaving us with 65 left over.

For kippot, we had 88 men RSVP yes but we ordered 75 assuming not all would take one (opposite mentality of the benchers). 54 kippot were taken and we were leftover with 21, so about 72% - a much better take-home rate than the benchers.
