We are ordering mini cupcakes instead of cake for our wedding and I dont know how many to order, so I was hoping to get your advice. To make it more complicated, we are having a grooms cake (its a surprise) and we will have enough for one slice each). There are 60 guests, so how many cupcakes should we get? What would you order? Here are the flavors I chose, we can do any combination of varieties:

*Red velvet w/ cream cheese frosting

*chocolate w/ cinnamon coffee frosting

*carrot cake w/ cream cheese frosting & walnuts

*Double chocolate

Aw, thanks! We tried to make it work!

Yeah, I'm knocked up, I could eat about 37 mini cupcakes right now. I went to Starbucks this morning and had a piece of lemon pound cake. Shhhhh don't tell H, he'll tattle on my to my OB at my next ultrasound. lol.

I personally could eat 3-4. usually the more food you have available the more people eat.

Oh when I read the title of this post, I thought it was a challenge Smiley sad

Anyway, are you using the cupcakes as dessert or what type of meal are you serving? At my cousin's wedding, we had appetisers, main and dessert and I was so full I didn't eat cake, but I know her dad ate like 3 slices...

The amount of food you serve beforehand can seriously change how many people would eat. I would say allow 2-3 per person, as some will eat 3 and no groom's cake, and others might eat 2 and groom's cake.

I could eat 3, plus a slice of cake if it was served later on. But I'd be tempted to take 4 just to try all of your flavors . . . so maybe just serve 3 cupcakes and have the double chocolate be the groom's cake flavor to stop cupcake fatties like me from eating all your cupcakes?

Krissssss...hope you're feeling better in your second trimester (I think?)!

We had mini-cupcakes. Ordered 96 for our 65 person guest list plus we cut our 6 inch cake into slices. We also had a dessert buffet. Had a ton of cupcakes left over as the desert buffet was put out right after dinner and we cut the cake maybe 30 minutes into dancing, so everyone was full. I would say put out all the deserts at the same time if you're going to have more than the cake/cupcakes. Also, we didn't have signs for the different flavors, which, in hindsight, was a mistake.

Hey Juliette, thanks! I feel soooooo much better! 20 weeks as of yesterday. Eeeek I'm growing a person. Smiley smile

I like Sandy's idea about the flavors too!!!

So Juliette and FutureMrSB bring up awesome points about overall menu and timing. We put out those cupcake escort cards at the beginning (obviously), had lots of apps and a VERY big 3-course family-style meal, served cake right after dinner, then we had sandwiches/aka sausage platters come out, and then the dessert bar went up after dinner, and then we ordered a bunch of pizzas. We had food coming out of our ears. My ILs are from Poland and it's just one of those cultural things where if you don't have an overabundance of food the family thinks it's embarrassing. FIL freaked out when we ran out of Hennessy at 1am (our reception went until 3-4am.)

So I guess I would think about if you're trying to have extras for take-home, if you want it to be just enough, how long your reception is, etc.

Oh! You ladies crack me up! What was I thinking asking how many you could eat lol! Thanks for the advice, I think since the grooms cake is chocolate peanut butter I will take off the double chocolate, that leaves me three flavors so I can get enough for everyone to try one of each and grooms cake. We will also have two or three other desserts and some kind of mint or something refreshing.

I also am renting a big silver coffee maker thing, it makes 40 cups. So I thought when it is dessert time we could bring out a table all set up with a little coffee station, cupcakes, and cake. Should look nice!

I don't know whether you would classify our food as a lot or little, its appetizers (two), then buffet with two main meats, 3 types m&c, roasted potatoes, salad. I feel bad for subjecting all you pregnant/ dieting ladies to this....

Is this still enough dessert for people to take some home as favors? Three mini cupcakes per person, grooms cake around a slice per person, two smaller desserts that family makes like white chocolate pretzels and and maybe simekind of cookie. ? ? I would not like to have a lot left over, i want them to take it home.

Oh my goodness if you lay out carrot cake cupcakes I would eat until I felt sick and then manage a way to sneak them home...

I like other suggestions of 2-3 per person. All of your food sounds delicious!!! I'm starving just reading this
