How many over priced mini cupcakes should I get per person?

Bee, on May 6, 2013 at 1:29 PM Posted in Planning 0 14

60 guests. The mini cupcakes are $1 per person, but the benefit is that you can get multiple flavors for people to try a variety. (This is my wedding cake/cupcakes). I thought for a dollar each they would be a little bigger, but when I saw them in person they are actually really small! Maybe 1.4" in diameter at the bottom and 2" tall. I am a little disappointed because I thought you would get a lot more, oh well.

Anyway, I also am paying for a big grooms cake, which is chocolate and reese cup with peanut butter icing, and a small wedding cake for cutting which is vanilla or almond vanilla or something like that.

I wanted three flavors, but I am thinking maybe I could save some money and get 2 minis per person. that would be two flavors. What do you think? Also, we have a candy buffet with candy covered oreos and other stuff.

I am stuck between what flavors to buy and whether two per person is a good idea in lieu of the other desserts. Here are the flavors- opinions?

We are still debating how much dessert per person too! We think we found a baker to do a cheap ish cake, bit we may also get cup cakes to supplement....

And I like all those options! Red velvet is probably the safest choice though

Eta carrot without the nuts would be good too if that's possible

I think all three flavors sound really tasty. If you had to pick only 2, I'd personally nix the red velvet. Will they be served to the guests and offered one of each flavor, or put out on display for the guests to help themselves? If the latter, it's possible you could run out going 2 per person, but even if you do, you'll have the groom's cake and the candy buffet for people.

I think two per person is good if they are small! I would definitely eat both of them! I'm personally not a fan of carrot cake but the other two sound amazing!

2 per person sounds like it should be enough. The chocolate with cinnamon coffee buttercream sounds amazing!

It is so hard to choose! I know some people do not like red velvet (his little cousins for sure) and I have no idea how people feel about carrot cake. But I figured why do plain old chocolate and vanilla when we have those represented in the other desserts?

what do you ladies think of doing the red velvet (60count), carrot cake (60) and coffee (25)? Since that is more an adult flavor and kids wont eat that one? or is that just more confusing?

I would just keep it at sixty of the two flavors unless you really think it's worth an extra twenty five dollars.

We haven't figured out dessert servings per guest yet, but right now we are paying 150 dollars to feed about 55 guests when we may have 60 so may buy a similar flavor sheet cake from Safeway to have extras just in case. We were considering cupcakes at $1.5 each with a variety of flavors, but I think it will be more expensive since guests will want to try each flavor.

Btw the grooms cake sounds delicious Smiley smile

Ok, I think as much as it pains me to do so, I am going with carrot cake and coffee flavor. So if you count the other desserts that gives us vanilla cake, carrot, coffee, and chocolate peanut butter. Sounds like a good variety to me! :-)

Bun I like that idea, sounds like a good thought to have the extra back up cake too. I think from everything I have found so far you can pretty much count on people trying each flavor no matter what.

Because so many people are allergic to nuts, skip the carrot cake since you've got the Reese's p'nut butter cake.

FYI- THREE mini cupcakes equal ONE regular sized cupcake. (I make the mini's for my side biz.)

Also, mini cupcakes are so much more labor intensive than just regular ones, so it justifies the charge.

@Bee.. I had to copy your post idea about our dessert situation.

FH and I are second guessing ourselves if we actually want a tiered cake or not because we can get the same thing it a sheet and have it tastes the same. I personally love the idea of variety (like with cupcakes) but I guess it does encourage more coonsumption.
