How many photographers did you meet with before booking?

FutureMrsC, on May 31, 2016 at 1:51 PM Posted in Planning 0 27

Hi, ladies!

My FH and I are hoping to nail down a photographer this summer and get our E-pics done in the fall.

I did some research online, and found a photographer I looooove for $3,400, which is in our budget. I was hoping to stay under 3.5K. This includes 10 hours of coverage, e-pics, 2nd shooter and photos after the wedding (no album or hard copies). I am meeting with him tomorrow in person to get a feel for each other, ask/answer questions, etc.

How many photographers did you meet with or communicate with before booking? I am afraid to book "too early" and would love some advice. Thanks!

I met with 2, communicated with 4 or 5. I did a search through Thumbtack to try and see what a reasonable quote was. I also learned a lot of times their prices can be negotiated down a little bit, or you can talk them into adding a little more for the same price (albums or prints). Hope that helps!

I researched dozens, but only met with one. I basically fell in love with his work and he just had an awesome personality. I HAD to go with him. I had an "ah-ha!" moment with my dress and my photographer. haha!

I researched probably 15 or 20. I narrowed that down and met with 4. Of those 4 I narrowed down to two and spoke with them again and asked more specific questions about how the day would go, customizing packages to get the most for our money, and finally was able to choose based on who we felt most comfortable with. We absolutely loved our photographers!

We met with three and then booked the one that we got the best vibe from and had what we wanted. This was done a good year and a half in advance. In my experience what you listed for that price seems pretty great!

I met/spoke with over 5 but I researched well over 30. It took me 3 months to narrow it down.

I found mine at a bridal show, so I saw quite a few of them in a short period of time. My photographer really stood out with her bubbly outgoing personality and her pictures were perfect.

ETA: I'm getting married 10/7/17 - I don't think a photographer is too early because they book up quickly in prime seasons.

I contacted about 5 or so and met with 4 of them. I think we have almost agreed on the one, just have to get my Fiance to call them up and work it out.

I'm getting impatient but I gave us a deadline of end of June and I think he will use that Smiley sad

I communicated with about 4 or 5 different photographers. One did my friend's wedding but he was out of our budget. Only officially met with 1. We LOVED her work and her pricing, so we booked her Smiley smile

I researched 10. 2 of whom I had worked with in the past. I narrowed it down to those 2 and a third (after our disastrous engagement shoot with another photog, we won that in a competition). We ended up picking the third photographer after we met with her, She was the perfect fit for our personalities and her aesthetic was EVERYTHING we were hoping for. She's been insane through everything.

Researched a ton, emailed a few, and met with one who we booked. I really liked his work and he offered us a package within our price range, so I didn't want to miss out by waiting too long.

I researched probably around 10. Decided I liked one in particular and messaged them. Had a phone consult and didn't like them at all. Their pictures are great but their personality annoyed me even over the phone. The next week a woman my mom knows recommended her daughter's photographer. We met a few weeks ago and I loved her! We're working on the contract now.

Emailed maybe a dozen photographers and talked to 6 of them (two over Skype but the rest in person). We narrowed it down to two and then took maybe week or so to decide. We really clicked with the photographer we ended up booking, but he was also more expensive so we wanted to think about it a bit before committing.

I met with two only cause I felt I had to but I knew the first one was for us. Its very important that you feel a connection with him/her and love their style. My first choice was a bit more expensive than the other one but I just know he is worth it.

Oh and I actually spoke with him and he gave us a bit more and changed the options to fit within our needs. So yes, I bargained with him and came out extremely happy and I do not think he thinks I haggled him or that i think any less of his work. I think its almost customary to negotiate a bit on pricing not to be taken as an insult to his professional skills.

Honestly, I only looked at a few. One of my friends had wedding photos that I absolutely LOVED, so when I reached out to her photographer and found that she was well within my budget, I was basically sold. I looked at a couple of other people just to investigate other options, but nothing could beat a good referral for me.
