How many shops did you go to before you chose your dress?

Carrie, on November 22, 2023 at 2:14 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 5

I've been to two shops so far. I found 3 dresses that I like, though I haven't found the one I love. Is it bad to go to multiple places or has everyone just chose a dress because it looked good.

There’s nothing wrong with going to multiple places, as long as you’re being up front with the workers. You want to find the right one for you, and that doesn’t always happen immediately.

I will say to make sure you fully style your top 1-2 dresses at each place, meaning try it on with a veil and any other accessories that you might wear. I liked my dress a lot, but trying it on with a sparkly belt to give it some definition at the waist and a cape veil to give it the sweep and wow factor made it THE DRESS.

I think you go to as many places as necessary to find the dress you love…Hopefully you will find your dress soon!

There is nothing wrong with going to multiple dress shops! Each one may carry designs from different designers (or even different designs from the same designer), so you will find completely different dresses at each shop.

For my ceremony dress, it ended up being at the first dress shop I visited, though I didn't say yes to it right away. I visited 4 shops before I went back and purchased my dress. My reception dress is a completely different story, but long story short, go to however many places you need to until you feel you found the right one. At each shop, take note of what shapes you like, what fabrics you like, what necklines you like, etc, and use that information to help you narrow down your options. Also keep in mind that some designers allow customization: if you love everything about the dress except for the neckline, ask if the dress can be customized with a different neckline. Or see if you can combine multiple styles from the same designer into one dress: the shape of dress A, the lace from dress B, the neckline from dress C, etc., though keep in mind that customization will likely increase the price of the dress.

Also consider questions such as, "Can I comfortably sit/dance/walk in this dress?", "How do I feel about the design of the dress?", "Is this dress in my price range?", "Do I like this dress?", "Can I envision myself walking down the aisle in this dress?", and "Is this my favorite dress I've tried on?" There is not just one dress that will look good on you - there are many! Happy dress shopping!

I lucked out and found my dress at the first shop and it was early on in the trying-on process. That being said, my sister ended up at 4 different places before falling in love with a dress. You only wear it once so my advice is keep going in with an idea of what to love and don’t and you’ll find it! Good luck.

I went to 2 shops but I tried on probably 20 dresses at one shop until I found the one! Don't be afraid to sleep on it and if you don't like it take your time finding the right one!
