How many votives do I need at each table?

Spunky kraut, on March 31, 2011 at 9:59 PM Posted in Style and Décor 1 11

My reception will be a tented outdoor reception. The tables are 60" rounds with ivory tablecloths and coral colored napkins. The centerpieces will be low on the table with lots of color and they will have a very casual feel to them that gives the appearance they were just picked. Ok, so that paints the picture a bit for you. Now, my question is, do you think having 2 votives at each table will be enough? Or would 4 be better?

We always add 3-6 per 60" table. Lots of twinkle is what we're going for in our evening tented events - two votives will provide very little. Also consider LED's in an outdoor tent, otherwise they may blow out leaving you with no twinkle at all.

On a rectangular table it is typical to go with 2, one on each side of the centrepiece... but with a round, most people do 3 or more. It is no set rule though, you can do whatever you feel like or whatever fits your budget.

I would suggest trying it out on a table (even if it isn't round) and seeing how it looks as a mock-up. Even if you don't have the right colour linens at home to go with it, it will give you an idea of how it will look on the table the day of. Smiley smile

Thanks ladies! I bought up all the cute votive holders that Michael's had yesterday, and I agree with you...I need to head back there and do another mass-purchase (with another coupon of course!). I think 4 at each will be sufficient. Rachel, great idea! When I go to my parents' house I'll play around with the votives and see how they look. Thanks again! Smiley smile

Personally, I'm all for 4 candles; however is your outdoor tent a light fabric or heavy?? candles make any room really warm, especially with dancing and hot food trays. if it's a heavy tent I would try to get some circulation going in there so everyone stays a comfortable temp.

I'd split the difference and go with three. According to many interior designers, odd number groupings are more pleasing to the eye.

@ericka - good point! I'm already on that....we will have several fans. The tent is not entirely enclosed so there will be air circulation...granted it's July in PA but the site is in a hilly area that tends to have better air movement. And the tent fabric isn't too heavy.

That's great! I'm always worried that one minor detail might mess up the day lol

I hear you...one of my biggest concerns about the reception has been how many fans to get. The last thing I want is my guests to be is super-uncomfortable.

OMG, you should see my checklists that I made! My FH laughs at me for all of my little checklists and my organizer but when he needed to know the amount we paid for such and such and I pulled the receipt out of my organizer in 2 seconds flat I think he was impressed. I'd say the past few weeks I've gotten a bit more obsessive...I keep feeling like I'm going to forget some major detail. But like I said, I think that is to be expected. I'm planning this single-handedly.
