How much are you spending on welcome bags

Jennifer, on May 30, 2014 at 4:13 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 1 20

Just wanted to see how much people are spending on average for hotel welcome bags... I feel I may be getting a little carried away (which is typical for me)

$25 per couple. It's both a welcome bag and favor, split between two people.

$0. I have 60 out of town guests. All they're getting is a 4 course meal, unlimited alcohol, candy favor, and an amazing band to dance to. That's right, I'm cheap. Lol the wedding industry is the biggest BS, especially welcome bags... Hahaha

We ended up spending $12 per room. Custom canvas bag filled with lots of local goodies.

$0. We didn't find them necessary.

My parents set up a hospitality suite and provided snacks/booze with an area to gather and talk all weekend. That was enough.

Wow! I dodn't realize how pricey these can be. I'm hoping to stock up at Costco and be under $5/bag

We're spending about $90 on 15 bags. We're getting canvas totes and filling them with water, local wine, soft pretzels, peanut chews and local maps/attraction coupons.

My MIL did that. She bought sand buckets from the Dollar Tree (15) as well as granola bars, m&ms, chips, bottles of water, and these customized labels. I'd say she spent around $15-20 a bucket.

We aren't doing them, even though the majority of FH family will be traveling. Added expense and we're already paying for their meal, open bar, and an awesome time. I've been to plenty out of town weddings and never gotten a bag, or expected one.

$0. I think it's a really nice touch, but that's not in our budget.

I'm hoping around $7 each. And the hotel has a $1 charge per bag. Stupid.

I think we spent about $350 to stuff 70 bags, got them printed for about $2.50 each, went to costco and put two bottles of water, pretzels, snack size cookies, cheese peanut butter crackers and two fruits snacks, pack of gum, and an invite to brunch. Also went to the dollar store - they had three indiv. wrapped packages of advil for $1.00 so we put one in each bag.. I'm only doing these for the OOT ppl. We're not doing any other favors so my local people won't get anything but I'm fine with that. Like the others said, they're getting one hell of a party.

$0 - no favors or welcome bags. Who decided in the last 20 years that so many things needed to be added to weddings? It's cute, but I've never returned from a wedding thinking, "where was my bag and favor?" Just more stuff to worry about in my book.

$0. I think they are only necessary when you have a destination wedding.

Every wedding is likely to have out of town guests- they know the drill and usually don't need bag of treats to get comfortable.

$0. All of my guest were from OOT. All were invited to the rehearsal dinner, so they at least got a free meal and alcohol on Friday night. I think that was sufficient.

$0 as I am not having them. I don't find them necessary and would rather spend my limited budget on stuff like food for the reception. In fact, I have never heard of welcome bags until I started planning my own wedding and read books and scoured the internet.

Bumping an old thread....I am having a stateside destination wedding....our wedding is on Saturday I am thinking if doing welcome bags for guests that arrive on Wednesday or Thursday....would that be tacky? I figure if you arrive on Friday they made it just in time for the wedding....

    Thoughts?
