Hi! I just made my first two appointments for wedding dress shopping and I’m excited! I have a budgeted amount for how much I want to spend on my dress/alterations so I was wondering how much other brides spent on their alterations to get a better idea of what to expect! I know it obviously depends on what’s being altered and the dress style but I thought it might help to just get a feel for it! Thank you!

I paid $480 on mine. She took 4 inches out, added bra cups, and an under bustle for my train. You get what you pay for is my motto! The lady I used is the best around so I wouldn't trust just anyone on my already expensive gown!

I have to get the one sleeve fixed, it has to be taken in at the waist, new cups and the bust is pointy haha so it has to be flattened. It needs hemmed and unfortunately my dress has 3 layers that need to be hemmed since it's so poofy....then the lace that goes at the bottom has to be attached...then she's going to make the bustle for me.

This is exactly what I did!

My seamstress took about 4 inches off the top (back and shoulders were huge on me) of lace and beading. She also fixed 2 button loops, some loose beading and added an 18 point bustle. My dress had a lot of lace and beading and I was so worried it was going to be more than I paid for the dress ($300) It cost $150 which was less than half of what I was quoted from other places!

I haven’t gotten my total price yet... I am having mine altered as we speak! I’m hoping it turns out well. She has hemmed it, fixed the waistline, and now she is reconstructing the neckline. I have paid $250 so far...How much did you spend on dress alterations? 2

I spent $700 on alterations. That was for my bustle, shortening the hem, taking in the waist, adding cups, and adding off the shoulder lace sleeves.

My dress needed quite a bit of hemming and a decent number of loops for bustling (I wish I would have counted how many points), and my belt attached--my seamstress is charging me $230.

I paid about $850. I have a fit and flare gown and a ball gown skirt that I added. Both have about 4-5 layers of fabric to hem with lace and glitter tulle. My butt and hips are large, so I was swimming in the top of my gown. He basically reconstructed the top when we got done pinning. I also have a bustle and a wrist bustle for me to do my first dance in my ball gown.

$875. As signed when I purchased the dress. They were going to add lace and it had boning to adjust. The ended up needing to recut the dress and remake it entirely, but no additional cost to me, so I don't feel like I was ripped off.

Mine was $432 at David's Bridal. That was to take in the sides and hip areas, shorten it (she said this was the set price for my gown - it had multiple layers of different types of fabric), and do a three point over bustle for the top lace layer, then an eleven point ballroom bustle for the lower, satin-y layer. It's crazy to think the dress itself only cost $200 more than the alterations! Those alterations are definitely something that can increase the cost quickly

Yes I did the same. Bridal shops definitely charge more and sometimes aren't better than the local shops!

My alterations cost $250. I had cups added to my dress, the top was taken in a little bit, my skirt was hemmed and the bustle.

I spent $360 for mine. That covered the hem, bustle (3 point), bra cups, and I had my veil tinted to be an exact match for my dress

I went to a seamstress with good pricing and I love her work. My alterations are $400, and that's only because I chose a 20-point bustle. She even said she was sorry that it was so expensive! No way, you're doing this elaborate bustle; please take the money you deserve! Aside from that, I got the dress taken in three sizes, straps added, and a layer of tulle removed.

I booked with a seamstress who does custom gowns. She is on the pricier end of alterations but she is also reconfiguring my gown. I’m spending 300.

The bridal salon I purchased the gown from wanted $1200 and I walked so quick out that door to take it elsewhere! I needed basic things - shortening the hem in the front, take in the sides some, bustle. Not overly extravagant gown so it didn’t make sense!
