How much did you spend on your Boudoir shoot?

Corinne_, on August 3, 2015 at 12:01 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 12

A study here gives out free shoots every now and and then, and I just won one of them. It's for two hours and comes with hair and make up! But of course, it's just the shoot, none of the pictures.

How many of the pictures you took did you end up getting? And how much did you pay for it? This place starts with $600 for an small album (without the digital images), or $750 for 10 retouched imagines.

I haven't done one yet, but this is pretty much on par with the quotes I've been pricing I've been given so far. The shoot itself is less than $200, but the photos and albums are outrageous - $20 per digital negative and albums ranging from $550 for 5x5 to $1000 for 8x8 or 10x10.

I was so surprised and did some research on the lay-flat albums and the ones I saw started around $400, so I guess paying $150 to have a professional create it for me isn't too bad.

I don't understand why boudoir is so different from the wedding day photography. It's 1/6 of the photographers' time for 3x the price.

I did a pinup shoot last week. Its my hair and makeup artists company. The company had a $99 dollar deal with 2 outfit changes, full hair and makeup with a 30 min shoot, and a free 8x10 print. I added on the disk of images for $175 and a book of 20-30 images for $65. The original package didn't include the images or the book and is usually around $325. So I ended up getting a great deal, and the ladies were great. Can you pay for the disk of images and then shop around to get an album made?

My boudoir session is in less than a month. Oh man. I'm going to order something special for it when I get home from the dentist today to make myself feel better from the dentist LOL.

Anyway, my photo shoot will be 3 hours, plus an hour for included professional hair and makeup , comes with "girl talk, music, champagne and little snacks while getting ready" - 4 outfit changes - $650! Of COURSE that doesn't include any pictures. While you can order separate pictures, or a poster or calendar for about $100-120 the smallest package (it is a really cute box of pictures with your favorite one on the top/or cover of the box) is $650 - which, if I like any of the pics, is what I will purchase for FH as a wedding gift. Mostly, I am doing this for the "experience" though - sort of to (hopefully) get out of my shell before the wedding. Most "albums" go for $750 and up. Yes, it costs as much as a wedding photographer! But, for me it will be a once in a lifetime thing and double as my bachelorette fling. hehe

The studio I did mine at offers "mini sessions" every few months. For the mini session it was $149, and an additional $100 for all of the digital images. I also had the option to buy just a few pictures for less if I didn't want them all. The mini shoots are 30-45 minutes, and the photographer doesn't several in one day, but she still took her time to make sure I got all the shoots I wanted. I did my hair myself, in a style that I am comfortable with but my dh loves. For makeup I made an appointment at MAC, it was free with $50 purchase and I was already planning to buy lipstick and lipgloss in the color my MUA was using for the wedding. I bought the digital images so I could make a book myself. I used Mixbook, and found a groupon for $50 credit for $15. That covered a leather covered 8x8 photobook, I just had to pay $8.99 for shipping. I didn't want to spend tons of money, but I was so happy with the result.

$275 for an hour long shoot with the print release. I also spent $60 on hair and makeup, and it will run me around $35 to make FH's book.

250 for 2 hours. Included make up and hair. I got it for a discount b/c she had a cancellation. Normally $475. I got the images on a disk and got a free book through shutterfly for DH.

The photographer I know (and she has great work, we workout at the same place & many others I know have done shoots w/ her) he has a special usually every other month usually around gift giving holidays (Valentine's, father's day, Christmas) its $60 for 30 mins (2 outfits) or $100 for an hour, add hair & makeup additional $100. You get one touched up photo in print. Everything else is extra. Ive heard usually it ends up being about $350 bc most ppl get the little book with about 12 touched up photos ($150).

Here is my breakdown of costs:

$204.12 for the two flash sales (combined to be a 2 hr session, 4 outfits, 8 digital images)

$170 for 2 hair and makeup looks

$810 for the Bombshell album (Leather cover, thick lay-flat pages, 35 images. Comes with DVD of images with custom case)

    GRAND TOTAL: $1,184.12

Here is the full post I did from my shoot (pictures not included in the post):

    https://www.weddingwire.com/wedding-forums/boudoir-shoot-draft-album-link/589c130d84713385.html

I went to a specific boudoir studio, and studios tend to be more expensive. But they also tend to be a little nicer quality. After they deleted the bads ones (eyes closed, funny look on face, etc) and exact duplicates, I had 157 images when I did my viewing appointment. It took me an hour to go through them and get it down to 44 pictures. At times I regret spending that much (I haven't picked up my album, yet, so don't have anything in hand) but then I think about how I looked in the picture and it was worth it. I looked effing amazing, and I never feel that way about myself. The album I went with comes with the digital images, so I'm going to go on Shutterfly or something and make him a cheaper, small album that he can take when he goes on trips for work. Because I am not risking him losing the $800 album. Haha. I'd rather he lose the $10 Shutterfly one! Do they have options of albums that include the digital files? Mind sharing the link of the company so we can judge the pricing based on their work quality? That seems like a lot for a crappy photographer, but if it's a great company, it seems right on par.

Pancakes, I remember your post and you looked amazing!

This is the studio: http://www.dnapremiumphotography.com/ Their pricing is hidden in the 'getting ready guide' on the 'Learn More' tab. Their Classic Albums (non-leather) are between $600 and $745 (15 - 30 pictures), but to get the digital pictures with those, you have to add $500. Only digital pictures are either $125 for one picture or between $750 to $1375 for 10 to 30 edited pictures (without albums). From what I'm seeing here, they are definitely on the higher priced side.

Well, to be honest, I'm not blown away by their work. It looks like they don't have scenes (like a bed, couch, vanity, etc) and only have the standard sheet backgrounds like in school pictures. I really think the scenes make it incredible. As long as the shoot and hair/makeup really is free, I think you should go for it. If you don't like any of them, then you aren't in the hole for a lot of money from the shoot! Smiley smile But if you end up liking some, maybe buy two (so it's $250) digital files so you can get prints for his nightstand and maybe if you have a computer room he uses. And if you end up like a few, then I would go with the 10 digital files and go to a cheaper company (like Shutterfly) for a mini book. But why not just go to it and see what the results are, since it's free.

Mine was $250 and I received 300 pictures on a disc with all the rights to it. I did my MUA and hair trial that day so that was covered. we had ones in the studio and ones with my DH's classic car. We used the car for the wedding and engagement pictures so it was nice to tie it in. my photog was the same one for the wedding and e-pics
