How much did you spend on your dress?

I'm shopping for dresses and am wondering what is a reasonable amount to spend on a dress. I know it depends on my budget but I'm not going to buy a dress based solely on cost --I won't pay up the ying yang either. The dress I like is significantly more expensive than what I was hoping to pay...

I'm shopping for dresses and am wondering what is a reasonable amount to spend on a dress. I know it depends on my budget but I'm not going to buy a dress based solely on cost --I won't pay up the ying yang either. The dress I like is significantly more expensive than what I was hoping to pay (~$2300). If you've gone over budget for your dress, how much did you pay (if you feel comfortable sharing)? Was it worth it?

$179 at David's Bridal. It was $199, I got it on sale. BTW it's a bridesmaid dress but perfect for me. Veil was $69. It will be $60 to alter.

My parents paid for my dress, but my goal for maximum spending was $500. My mom ended up picking a $800 dress for me to try on and that's the one I fell in love with! So we went a little over what my goal was, but I also got $500 worth of accessories for only $200 because of a sale they had going on. My mom and I are both very pleased with paying $1000 for everything except shoes!

    My dress was 500.

Please also keep in mind that alterations can be about $500...

So your $2300 dress could end up costing $3000 after alterations and taxes.

Is a dress that you wear once and is basically a prop for nice pictures worth $3,000?

    In my opinion, fuck no.

And I guarantee you that if you found one you love, that there is a very similar looking dress for half that price!

    Good luck hunn.

Just figure out your wedding priorities.

I went to a chain store and wasn't impressed. I found a small town shop and loved the experience I had. I wanted sleeves or cap sleeves, the dress I bought is strapless but she has some lace to make the cap sleeves for me! Though I didn't have a budget, I didn't want to spend over $400. The dress I bought was only $518 after taxes, and she said it won't be much for alterations. I like to shop local/small business anyway, but I would recommend it. I didn't like feeling like just a number in the chain store.

I didn't really have a dollar amount in mind when I went shopping. In the end I bought my dress on sale for 500 but it was originally a 1500.00 dress, I was excited to get a deal.

I wanted to stay under 2k (mom's decision as it was a gift from her).

Dress was $2100, two yards of lace from the designer was another $200, and alterations including adding full length sleeves will probably run over $3k total. No regrets.

I failed. Originally planned to spend no more than $600...then $800...then $1100...

    I bought a dress for 1256.00. Whoops.

I set myself a budget of £1200 for dress, veil, shoes and underwear. Dress and veil was £1000. Still haven't found shoes or underwear i love yet. FH found me a gorgeous pair of Jimmy Choos but i can't justify £2700 on a pair of shoes!!!

My budget was $1000, but my mom was paying and kept increasing the budget at every turn. She just wanted me to have what I wanted, I think. I spent $1,300 on the dress and had a $258 belt. I don't have shoes yet and alterations will be minimal because the dress on the rack fit perfectly!
