Hi girls!
So I am in the process of selecting my dress and I know exactly what I want when I see it. This wasn’t the exception, I saw the beautiful dress by Berta and I completely fell in love. What wasn’t so lovely about it? The price, it is about $6900 in most stores. I gave up on it but whenever I went to try dresses I kept looking for something that looked like that and, not surprisingly, they just didn’t compare. A few months passed and today I found a great deal which is still pretty out if my budget ($3000) but was priced about 35% less than the original price. It is from a trustworthy boutique and they assured me it has all the tags, it even it’s my size! Anyways, the point is that I am not sure if I could justify spending so much on a dress I am only wearing for a few hours. Any advice? How much did you spend on yours?

You took the words right out of my mouth. I needed a dress that wasn’t expensive and was comfortable. I ended up getting a Kiyonna wedding dress. They retail around $300. I bought a sample they had in my size for only $144. Its super comfy, has some stretch to it, and its a pull over. I don’t need anyone to help me get in or out of it. Nothing to zip or lace up and no alterations needed.

FH gave me a budget over 2k. I was really worried I wouldn't be able to find what I liked with that budget, but I ended up spending only 1600 and the dress had every single thing I wanted! Its really about what you feel comfortable spending. I know a lot of brides that went to David's Bridal and found dresses under 1K that are gorgeous.

Nothing wrong in keeping to your budget because there is more to life after the wedding, which is equally if not more important than the dress! My budget of under $1,000 got flexed a couple hundred to suit the dress I liked the most thanks to my caring husband offering the extra funds since we saved a bunch of money elsewhere after we relocated (we were living abroad for a few years). But I had also found an equally beautiful dress on clearance well under my budget with alterations. In the end, he convinced me to choose the one I felt more comfortable in, but I believe if it were drastically over my budget I couldn't feel comfortable wearing it at all because I'd be thinking of how else we could have used the money for our new house, etc. Find something special, but remember it doesn't have to burst your pocket to do that.

My Maggie Sottero dress was $1,950, plus rush shipping $325, plus tax and then their seamstress was, as I was told, normally ranged from $550-$1,000 depending on needed alterations. I too was in love with this dress and nothing else compared.
I searched online and found a bridal boutique on Tradesy that was a state over from where I live. They had my dress listed in my size for $1400 but I messaged them to see if this was firm. They told me to make an offer, and I offered $1,000 & they accepted, that included shipping and tax. I took my dress to a local seamstress and that was another $110. You could try searching Tradesy, Poshmark, Preownedweddingdresses.com. My suggestion would be googling your dress- style number and look frequently.
Other thoughts would be, go to different dress shops, keep an opened mind, and see if you don't find another dress you love maybe even more. That was my plan if I didn't find my dress.

Mine is gonna be around 2,000 after alterations. A little more than I wanted to spend as I did not count for alterations when setting my budget

I spent $600 on an Essense of Australia dress. Got a great deal online; found someone who had bought it a year before and didn't wear it. I felt soo lucky!

My budget before alterations was around $2,000, but I, actually, found my dress for $200!! A bride was selling it on Facebook Marketplace! It was new and never worn because she decided to wear a different dress instead. I couldn't believe how cheap it was! There's a ton of beading, lace, and ruffles so it definitely cost way more than $200 to make. I tried on a dress very similar to it for $3,000.

Mine was $600, which was over my $500 budget. But since it was my dream dress, the 100 was not a huge budget buster. My alterations we're $150.
I know this sounds cheap, but my first wedding dress was only $120, so I really felt like I was splurging this time 😂

My budget was under 1500, I found my dress for 1400 and some change. I found my jewelry on amazon for 20, and my shoes for 45. For alterations I am having the same person alter it that recently altered a bridesmaid dress for me; I am also planning on having her make me a veil as well. She quoted me 75 for the veil.

What you spend is absolutely your own choice! Some people will happily spend $10k on a dress, some wouldn't DREAM of it! My dress budget was $3k (alterations included) and I ended up finding a dress that was about $1100 with about $400 in alterations. (MoriLee by Madeline Gardner - Marciela 8118)

You don't have to justify your decisions to anyone (unless they're picking up the tab lol) and whether you feel beautiful in a dress that costs $1k, $12k or $18.00 - that's all for you to decide! Smiley smile

Mine was $2000! It’s super important to feel comfortable in it and love it. So don't feel bad splurging on something you have to look at forever

$300 - wearing a dress to marry the love of your life...not the dress. Think of all the things you could put the other thousands towards later in life.

Maybe look on websites that resell dresses? I often see never worn with tags wedding dresses on Poshmark and Tradesy . Some people buy a dress and never wear it or find another one they like more.

It's 100% your choice. Look at your budget and see if it fits, and also look at your priorities when it comes to your budget. Is your dress one of your splurge items? You need to love the dress you wear!

I didn't want to spend more than $2,000 (without alterations) and ended up spending $1,299 on the dress of my dreams.

My dress budge was under $600 and mine came in at $595. I bought a veil for $70 and crinoline for $60. Alterations (hemming and bustle) cost an additional $211, so I came in at just under $1000.

My total wedding budget is $9000, but even if it had been larger I think I personally would have still said something under $1000 for the dress itself.

I think its what you want your day to be, how the dress makes you feel and if you ultimately cant find anything else that makes you feel 100% your best on your wedding day. I spent about 2200 or so for my dress and my fathers budget was 1500. But my dress put the biggest smile on my face -- part of me refused to look for anything else Smiley laugh . So I think its up to you honestly.

It's hard to say what the right budget is for everyone. But I will say a wedding is not about the dress, it's about the man at the end of the aisle that's going to love you in whatever you wear. Be confident in what you wear and love what you get but don't forget about the real reason behind the wedding. Your love for your FH.

My dress was on sale for like 890, vail and head piece was 250 and I'm getting alterations through a private seamstress but estimate them to be about 150-200. Good luck!

My dress budget was $300. I found my Maggie Sottero for $275 down from $1330. It had never been worn, still has the tags on. I'd suggest searching the pre-owned dress websites for the Berta dress. I used Stillwhite. Pre-owned doesn't necessarily mean pre-worn. You may be able to find your dress for a fraction of the original price. I couldn't justify paying thousands for a dress, in part because we're trying to buy a house and need a down payment and in part because, to me, it doesn't make sense for a dress I'm going to wear for about 6 hours. But it's your wallet and your budget. If you can afford it without having to sacrifice other things that are important to you, why not?

It's personal preference! Not wanting to spend that kind of money and not being able to spend that kind of money are two different things in my opinion. If you absolutely do not have the money to spend, then don't.

I went shopping at a sample sale where everything was under $1000. I was really excited because I thought I was going to walk away with a great bargain. Well, I was treated terribly and did not buy a dress there. I went down the road and found a dress at another boutique that I fell in LOVE with. I told my consultant that I did not want to go over $1500, but she put me in a dress priced at $2000 and it was PERFECT. She worked her magic and got me 25% and an additional $50 off the dress and made it happen.

I wanted to stay under $1000 initially, but I knew I was willing to spend a little extra if the dress was THE ONE. My fiancé and mother bought the dress. My mother gave me a number she was comfortable and my fiancé gave me a number he would spend because they wanted me to love the dress.

My dress is $3000. I never wanted to spent that much on a dress but every time I tried on a dress I compared every other to that dress and I couldn’t keep myself away from it.
