Hi girls!
So I am in the process of selecting my dress and I know exactly what I want when I see it. This wasn’t the exception, I saw the beautiful dress by Berta and I completely fell in love. What wasn’t so lovely about it? The price, it is about $6900 in most stores. I gave up on it but whenever I went to try dresses I kept looking for something that looked like that and, not surprisingly, they just didn’t compare. A few months passed and today I found a great deal which is still pretty out if my budget ($3000) but was priced about 35% less than the original price. It is from a trustworthy boutique and they assured me it has all the tags, it even it’s my size! Anyways, the point is that I am not sure if I could justify spending so much on a dress I am only wearing for a few hours. Any advice? How much did you spend on yours?

You have to be comfortable with your purchase so step away for a moment and think about how important that particular dress is for your day. I budgeted 1000.00 for my gown but I lucked up and found one for 100.00. It isn't what I thought I would be wearing, but I considered the amount of time I would be wearing it and went for it.

I feel the same exact way Victoria! I found mine at a boutique that sells last years brand new designs for discounted prices. My dress came to $675! If you are near Denver, be sure to check out Brilliant Bridal! Love them!

My dress is $2000 and that's the budget so alterations and accessories will go above what I wanted to spend. It's a slippery slope - breaking the budget on the dress by a lot will give way to making accommodations elsewhere that add up to a wedding way over budget. The expensive dresses are just more detailed versions of the same silhouettes that wouldn't break the bank. Long-term, the stress of overspending can overshadow the dream gown if it gets out of hand but like the other ladies said, it's all your personal situation and what you're comfortable making accommodations for.

I have seen people spend thousands of dollars and I could never think of spending that much on a dress for one day. I fell in love with my dress but it was $1000, the lady told me that it was actually on sale for $850. I knew when I kept trying other dresses on and kept thinking of that one that I had found MY dress. I haven't had alterations on it yet so I'm not sure of the final cost. If you have the means and can afford it i say go for it. You will always be comparing every other dress to that one and constantly thinking of it.

I didn’t have a budget, but only spent $800 on my wedding dress. The veil that I wanted cost $400, so I’m waiting to find a cheaper one.

Hi Abigail! Dress shopping can be super stressful. Personally, I’m a very simple gal and don’t like to be the center is attention lol. Yay being said, I gave myself a very low budget of $1000 for my dress. Where I bought it at was at a local dress store a friend suggested to me. I was fortunate enough to find a dress that not only blew my mind, but was also under my budget! I guess what I’m trying to say is, know your style and shop local lol.

My budget was $5,000 but the dress I fell in love with was $2,000 so I was happy about that! A lot of brides in my area spend about $1,500-3,000 so that's the price range they have the most of in local dress stores. I looked when I was in LA visiting family and that wasn't the case there lol. Where you shop matters!

Wow! Thank you much to every single one of you. I agree in one way or the other with each and I truly appreciate your encouragement and great advice! So I’ve decided to keep looking, but I’ll keep it on the back of my mind. I am hoping that I can find something a little more in my budget so I can spend that money on the honeymoon but i do want to have a dress that i love and not that I just think it’s beautiful. As many of you said, I will remember it for the rest of my life, but as many others said, it doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg. It’s hard because all the options i keep finding are not available in the US or are 7k+. I am going to try more dresses that I think could like and at the very end, If i can’t find the dress, I would be okay spending that money because I know I tried and kept my options open.
Thank you for sharing and best wishes to all of you in your marriage!

I think it really just depends on your budget! If you’re on a strict budget but your fiancé is cool with cutting costs on something else so you can get your dream dress, then why not! I personally don’t think $3000 is unreasonable, and my budget was $2000 (got mine for about $1700 not including alterations). If you’re set on not spending $3000, i recommend looking online at bridal shops in your area and looking up every designer they have, find out their budget, and if you find a dress, make sure they have it in stock to try on. I did that, ended up falling in love with a dress so i had it ordered to the store, and it ended up being the dress i picked! Spending some time doing research goes a long way!

Do you mind me asking where you are located and what the designers name is? I found that if i googled “(insert designers name here) wedding dress costs” and only focused time researching designers in my budget, i was able to narrow things down and avoid falling in love with dresses outside my budget.

I have no idea what I will spend on it. On my first try-on appt, I told the lady my limit was $500, but that’s the way it didn’t have dresses under 500 bucks. My mom still hasn’t taken me dress shopping, so I guess I better go myself.

Yes that’s probably a more effective approach, I usually focus more on researching a specific design and when I find out the price I am left depressed haha. I am currently living in Chattanooga, TN. But I also travel at least every other week to Orlando, FL which is where my fiancé lives and we’ll live after the wedding.

I was trying to stay under $1000 for mine but ended up spending $1500. I didn’t want to settle for something that i wasn’t truly comfortable and happy in. It’s a once in a lifetime moment. Make it special 💕
