How much did you spend total on candy buffet?

Mrs.Mayes, on March 23, 2014 at 2:40 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 23

I just spent $50 on some mustache shaped suckers and a little candy scoop. I'm trying to stay under $200 for this but I feel as though it's going to be hard to do. Should we just buy two more types of candy and leave it at that? There will be cake and cookies so it's not like a sucker is all the dessert they will get.

I didn't do one, so take my advice with a grain of salt.

If you want to stay under $200, look for generic candy in bulk. The mustache suckers are specialized and trendy, and probably cost more because of that.

I'd get three others - M&Ms, sour candies, and maybe small hard candies for variety.

You can find some vases at the Dollar Tree that would work nice.

Candy buffets are really expensive which is the reason I did not do one. I would try to look for bulk candy online. If you're considering it a dessert bar I would get maybe one more type of candy, but if it's a candy buffet I would get a couple more types. Just make sure you have enough of each type of candy for each guest.

@KT-V That's what we are planning to do to. We would prefer plastic anyway because with our luck someone would drop one and it break.

Weddings in 3 months so haven't purchased candy yet. But I have 12 big vases all purchased for between $3 and $15 dollar (more expensive for really big cool looking ones) I got them all on the clearance racks at Marshall's/tj maxx they always are on clearance there. I got bags from Michaels 1.99 for 25 packs and then I just stamped them to personalize them. Finally I have priced enough candy for 300 guests to be under 150.00 from I believe candy wearhouse.com (I'm on my phone so I can't look at the saved website but if you google there are quite a few cheap websites)

Bags, Vases and Candy.....$560. Seventeen vases filled with candy and 35 lbs. of candy. If I had to do it all over again I would forgo the candy and do a dessert buffet. My venue would have charged me $6.50 per person so it would have been a little more expensive ( by about $100) but I think more people would have taken advantage of it. Seems like the older people skipped the candy all together. I came home with about 7 pounds of candy which seems good, but again I don't think the older people really took advantage of it.

This will depend on what exactly you're looking for. I wanted all nice apothecary jars, so the jars alone are $200. I wanted candy only the colors of my wedding so I am doing Lindt truffles, gummy sharks/lobsters, chocolate pretzels, navy colored malt balls, etc so my candy itself is around $450 from candy warehouse

Since your wedding is in October, one great way to save is to shop post-holiday clearance candy at stores like Target, CVS, etc. Are you looking for particular colors? Easter is coming up. I would start collecting coupons, and then stalk Target every day after Easter Sunday until the candy goes down to 50%. If you are able to combine coupons with this sale, you can get bags of candy for $1.00 or less!

If that seems like too much work, then you can try to order generic (not name-brand) candies in bulk online or at a local candy shop.

It can be tempting to DIY this, but there are a few vendors I have seen in my area that are offering great deals on a candy buffet. Delivery, set up and tear down included with 6 candy flavours in a colour of your choice for $250. They will do some customization as well.

That price is amazing, so even though I didn't want candy, it caught my eye!

We're having 6 different candies in these old fashioned styled candy jars and we're just picking our favourites (and that others might enjoy).

I found two vases at the dollar store for $5.26 together and my grandmother found three she already had so I'm good on jars now. Just going to wait till after Easter now and buy some candy on sale.

I plan on getting most of mine from Sams Club. I got a set of 20 jars (huge jars) on craigslist for $200 with scoops and tongs. I am going to get regular stuff like M & M's, mini hershey bars, kisses and few family favorites ( pink mints and tootsie rolls like Granny used to always have in cabinet).

We are having a small wedding so we vowed to keep it simple and cost efficient. We are doing Zebra Corn (found a great recipe online for it!), M&Ms, Mixed Nuts, Rock Candy, Red Lollipops, Champagne Bubbles, Twizzler Hearts, Hershey's kisses, and Sour Candies

I'm not getting my suckers anymore which is upsetting. I just got emailed that they are sold out so they are giving me back my money and canceling the order. Because their supplier hasn't said when they are sending them more.

Party City!!! They have lots of bulk candy for cheap in every color! Especially sixlets! I'm going to be doing a little bit of candy on our sweets table. In Pittsburgh, it is normal to have a cookie table at wedding reception. It's kind of expected. Lots of family members generally volunteer to make cookies. The ratio should be about 4 cookies per person. We are also having cupcakes/mini cupcakes instead of a cake. So our sweets table will have cupcakes, mini cupcakes, cookies, and a little bit of candy. That will actually be our favors.

I spent about $175 for my candy buffet for 75ish people. I bought a lot of bulk candy from Temptation Candy online and Amazon. I also got candy on sale in my wedding colors after holidays (green after xmas, pink after valentine's day... good way to get Hershey Kisses and M&M's for cheaper). I'm also making some chocolate covered pretzels myself to save money. The majority of my glass containers came from Dollar Tree, the rest from Wal-Mart. I made labels and had them printed on cardstock, glued those to ribbon and glued ribbon to the containers. Here's some pics, it can be done!
