How much did your engagement ring cost?

...If you don't mind sharing! Do you wish FH spent more? Less? Do you think he got a good deal? Did you guys set a budget ahead of time, or did he pick it all by himself? If all these details are TMI for you - just show us a pic of your ring!

I don't quite understand people saying this is tacky..... I feel like this question is tacky in real life BUT I don't know you people! haha. $4k...and I don't have insurance (I know...I need it ASAP.)

Funny story- A jeweler asked me if I had gotten it insured and I said no. I then told her that I'm a hairdresser so I wash people's hair multiple times a day and so I have to pay a lot of attention to make sure it doesn't slide off with the shampoo or conditioner. She said "Oh my God please stop talking you are making me nauseous. Please get it insured immediately."

We went together, he was prepared to spend over 1k. My ring is blue topaz with a diamond halo, it was an estate piece, and only cost $450.00 I couldn't believe that.

I can't load pictures from my phone. However my ring is a saphirre and I love it. FH picked it out all by himself, we never even looked at engagement rings together. He did a great job, everyone thinks I picked it out

Appraisal value has nothing to do with the actual cost of a ring. In most cases, the appraisal value is higher than the purchase price, and often by a LOT - like 2-3x higher. The appraisal value done for insurance purposes is not what your ring cost, nor does it represent the actual value of the ring - it is an inflated price. You would never be able to sell your ring for the appraisal value. That number is only for insurance purposes. Its just how the appraisal industry works, likely to convince consumers that they got a great "deal" on the ring and so insurance companies can charge higher premiums on inflated ring prices.

@Becky -- WOW! how do you not accidentally scratch yourself with that thing all the time?! it's beautiful! I would definitely be nervous walking around with it too haha

I agree that this info could be super useful to people. I would have loved to have seen all this when we were researching rings. Mine was around 10K total -- 1.25 carat center stone was like $8500, I think? The micropave band with halo was $700ish. I especially love the extra little diamonds below the halo, that block the tip of the center stone (side view). We looked at a bunch of diamonds within FH's budget (which grew a bit after our first round of ring shopping lol), and I tried every setting under the sun. I knew I wanted a round cut diamond, but he preferred princess or cushion cut, so adding the cushion halo was a good compromise, so I don't have a completely round look. It was important to me that he like the ring, too. I would recommend ring shopping to anyone, if only to go look at diamonds under the loupe -- we both thought that was pretty cool!

Stephanie where did you get the wood inlay for $60? I'm looking for something similar for FH, but will be for the ceremony only.

C&S: Because easily offended people like nothing more than to let people know how easily offended they are. There's no point to being offended if they can't tell anyone how offended they are in a futile attempt to get people stop doing the thing that so easily offends them.

    Ha.

In general, speaking of money is ostentatious. Bleck. I love my engagement ring. It was less than most because I chose a gemstone over a diamond. I wanted something that represented us. My e-ring is both of our birthstone. It's stunning and it still sparkles. This picture doesn't do it justice.

Not dishing on the price, but we picked it out together and I love it. I didn't want the traditional diamond and I'm still happy I went with a yellow sapphire! It's 1.67 carets and I don't stop staring at it. Lol

@futureMrsT- your ring is beautiful! For a while I wished I had a halo (fh was against them for some reason) I love the way they look. I do love mine now. It does get in the way some but if i feel its going to get in the way i just spin the stone towards my palm. I spin it a lot anyways because of where I live (NYC area) Im on public transit a lot and always turn it around.

@C&K - ignore the haters- i wish i had seen something like this thread when we were looking- i was CLUELESS about rings, diamonds or any of it before I actually got my ring! Every single ring on this thread is beautiful- and the meaning behind each ring makes it that much more special. I totally agree with KM- if you strike a nerve with people they are going to voice it LOUDLY! You sweetly stated in your original post that if you didn't want to share it was no biggie- no person on this thread can say they weren't curious. I guarantee even if they didn't post anything they sure as heck READ every comment and judged! The people that don't judge don't care about sharing Smiley smile I've gotten so much good advise from WW and love getting to "know" people on here- I would never judge anyone based on a ring or budget for anything!

Not going to mention the cost (I set a pretty firm budget, as we want to have kids ASAP, and that shit is expensive), but I gave him some guidelines - no diamond for the center stone, halo, round or oval, rose gold. So I knew kind of what he would pick, but he went above and beyond with the ring. The stone is a Morganite - I love the color, but I guess he had to get pretty picky with the designer to get the color I said I wanted. I'm in love with it.

Ah this was pretty entertaining. I'm late in the game but decided to show my ring.

My FH custom designed my ring, the diamond size isn't huge but the quality of the diamond is really good so that added to the cost. Plus he wanted platinum. So to get it all custom-made and with those in mind, it cost him about $5k. He had it engraved on the inside to say Nau Ko'u Aloha meaning "My love is yours", he's super romantic! The design on the side is maile leaves which are typically used for leis at weddings. It really represents us which is why it's so special. The band is a circle of maile leaves.

The first is to show the side of my e-ring, the shape helps it from spinning on my finger.
