How much did your engagement ring cost?

...If you don't mind sharing! Do you wish FH spent more? Less? Do you think he got a good deal? Did you guys set a budget ahead of time, or did he pick it all by himself? If all these details are TMI for you - just show us a pic of your ring!

I don't know the cost but I know what it was appraised at. It's more than I wanted him to spend because I told him I didn't need an "engagement ring" but he is fairly traditional and insisted. He could have given me a hose clamp from his car and I wouldn't have cared!

So, just out of curiosity why are people ok giving the budget for the wedding, but not the amount spent on the ring? It all seems relevant to me...

I don't want to share the cost, but my e-ring is only about 1/3 carat I think so it obviously wasn't extremely expensive. I'm not huge into jewelry so with that in mind he chose something pretty basic and that's just what it happened to be. I'm glad it's not too expensive... I lose EVERYTHING. Haven't lost my rings yet though *knock on wood* LOL! I couldn't imagine how stressed I would feel about wearing a small fortune on my finger.

Lol @Snarky that's how I feel about it too. I've lost over half the presents FH has given me, I didn't a ring that I'd be terrified to lose.

Snarky, I lose everything too. I lose rings ALL THE TIME.

Now I have a brand new car on my left hand. It's an heirloom on top of that.

I never take it off. Ever.

I told him I wouldn't want a ring that was more than $2k, and I also didn't want a diamond. That's all he really knew going in. He did spend more than $2k....but I don't know exactly how much it was (over $3k, less than $4k maybe). It was appraised and we have the paperwork somewhere. He ended up picking out a green sapphire and I absolutely love it.

I asked him not to spend more than $1500 because I was (and still am) terrified I'd lose the ring. I found one I loved for $1250, but FH didn't want to order one online. He ended up buying one at the antique shop. I'm not sure exactly how much he spent, but I think it was around $200-300. I'm happy he didn't spend much and I love my ring. He keeps telling me we can get a new one (it's set really high so I snag it on everything) but I love that he picked it out, so I'm conflicted.

His original budget was 8k but he spent much less, thank God. Anything more than what he spent would have been reckless.

But I will tell you what I paid for the band...which was only $560. It retailed for $1200 but I got 60% off due to the small jewelry store closing its doors. Woo hoo!

Laura: SO true. I've seen everyone on this thread share their budget at least once, but not the amount of their ring, which is much less than their budgets?? Weird. Oh well...can't tell people what they should and shouldn't be comfortable sharing.

I was surprised at how much he spent because he's frugal, but it was nowhere near the "3 months of income" thing. Couldn't be happier with it, though!

    @AthenaKay that is gorgeous!

Free heirloom, but mine is a cocktail ring and istead of wearing it as my engagement ring, im using it as my wedding ring. Its very similiar to Kristen Hs ring but gold.

I honestly don't know, and I'm pretty sure that I'll never know. The ring was sold on etsy as a vintage plat band with diamond accents and a tanzanite center stone. FH knew that I didn't want tanzanite as it's too soft, and was able to purchase the ring without the center stone and then bought the ceylon sapphire separately. The appraiser did say that he was impressed with the clarity of the sapphire, no inclusions at 8x magnified...

ETA: y'all are right...it appraised for $8.5k, FH said he did not spend that much on it.

I'm not sure what he paid but I accidentally saw the retail price when I was trying to find a matching band. Retail price was half of what I would have been ok with him spending, womp womp lol. He told me the other day that we can upgrade it for a 5 year anniversary, but I doubt I will.

Elyse: girl, I hope you got that ring sized up a little. That has to hurt!

Please don't take offense to that!

He spent more than I would have liked since we're always short on cash, and could have gotten something much more "me" for less, but I love my e-ring - it's beautiful and FH put thought into it Smiley smile

I've posted the cost in my budget break downs before, and I hope this can help another lurking soon to be engaged bride. Around 1 karat in the center stone and he paid about $5,000 for it. I think the band was 2k and the diamond was 3k but I don't really remember.

ETA don't mind my spray tan i got last night, Derby this weekend!! I get where $$ people are coming from, but FH and I have a very "non-emotional" outlook at money, and i can see how it can be emotional, but it's no different to me than discussing my honeymoon budget
