How much did your invitations cost to mail?

Mallory, on June 12, 2017 at 12:15 PM Posted in Planning 1 37

I went to the post office this morning to have my invitations weighed and was told they would be $1.19 each to mail. I came back to look it up, my envelope is considered a regular "letter" size and was exactly 1oz, which according to usps.com would cost the standard .49 cents. I'm thinking of going to another post office to have them double check. How much did your invitations cost to mail each?

Ours were 1.1 Oz. We added an extra stamp (we used a 34 c postcard one because they were seashells, but they make 28 c ones that have penguins on them) and the total cost was $0.83 each. If it is over 1 oz, you do need the extra stamp. Not sure why they would tell you 1.19 though.

I used a 70 cent stamp with my paper invitations and my acrylic invitations were around 2 dollars and change.

The post office employee said that mine is considered a "large envelope", but online it says that anything smaller than ~6.18 and 11.25 is a "letter" and anything larger is a "large envelope". I'm thinking I'll try a different post office knowing this now. Just curious how much others costs since I don't think ours are particularly heavy.

Our was regular letter size so one stamp (.49cent) works. We also don't have a lot of stuff in it. We kept it very simple. Do you have a Postage Scale to make sure it not over that wright limit. If so I would go to another post office and double check.

ETA just saw what the employee said. If it is regular letter I would get a 2nd opinion at a different location

I used the $1.15 international stamps because I liked them and they went with my invites and I didn't like any of the other stamps. I had twine on my invites so they were over an ounce so I just paid for the $1.15 stamps so I wouldn't have to worry about it.

I just came back to work and used our postage scale, it measured 1.0 oz exactly. Hopefully the stamp won't put it over lol.

We needed a 70 cent stamp for the whole suite (plus a regular 49 cent stamp on the rsvp envelope inside).

Ours were standard so we only needed plain forever stamps!! Smiley laugh this was such a nice surprise for me because our save the dates were over and we had to buy "extra oz" stamps, which only came in the form of penguin stamps. Haha.

@Mallory they looked so classy next to my heart stamps... thats what I get for not having them weighed before slapping stamps on them!

I was extremely aware of postage when ordering my invitations. Since you weighed them yourself, I second that you need to try another post office. I would have brought the regulations up on my phone to the postal worker, but I hate feeling bullied into paying more when I am within the rules.

I was actually worried about this because I got the 5.5x 8.5 larger version of invitation that is still lettersized but larger than normal envelopes.

.70 cents. Be sure to go to the Post Office to find out for sure. They will weigh it for you so make sure you have a complete invitation assembled.

They also charge extra if they deem the invites can't go through the machine reader and then need to be hand cancelled or read. Mine were the A7 envelopes and one postal worker wanted to charge me the stamp and the not machine reading charge. The other workers said it wasn't necessary and just said the forever stamp would work. I'd ask another post office. Just try to go when they're not too slammed, as they may be more willing to help.

Eta: I did not receive any "return to sender" because of the machine reading. The one woman also tried to say that because our return address was on the back it might come to us instead. It is a thing, but didn't happen to us.

I bought my forever stamps when they cost 47 cents, and my invitations and RSVP cards only needed standard postage. However, we include postage on the RSVP return envelope, so 94 cents in total.

We kept our invites very simple so it was only .49¢ and a little more for the invites.

Mine were cardstock 5x7 invites w/ rsvp card, envelope, and reception insert. I was able to just use a forever stamp.

Mine were letter size, but over an ounce. Their weight would have been 70 cents, but they are too rigid and "not machinable." So we need to put additional postage on them. In total, 91 cents per invite.

Ours were under an ounce and just regular letter so just a forever stamp. Yours aren't too thick to fit through the machine reader are they? I would think they'd weigh more than an ounce if so, but I guess you never know.
