How much did your invitations cost to mail?

I went to the post office this morning to have my invitations weighed and was told they would be $1.19 each to mail. I came back to look it up, my envelope is considered a regular "letter" size and was exactly 1oz, which according to usps.com would cost the standard .49 cents. I'm thinking of going...

I'm thinking of going to another post office to have them double check. How much did your invitations cost to mail each?

I don't think they are too thick! There are only the 5x7 invites, 4x6 schedule of events, and the rsvp card/envelope. I've sent regular mail that's thicker than these. I'll head back this afternoon and let you all know if I have any better luck Smiley smile

$2.24 each, 4 years ago. They were boxed and square.

This happened to me. They wanted to charge me $1.19 even though they were 5x7 and less than the weight limit. The postal worker said it would cost extra because not all the contents of the envelope were the same thickness. I knew the $.49 stamp would work so I just mailed them. All my guests received them just fine.

It doesn't hurt to double-check with another post office! When I went in to hand cancel mine the postal worker told me I didn't have enough postage on them and I freaked out because I had weighed them and put on extra postage as required. When I asked her to check what they weighed and how much postage I needed she said "oooh I didn't see you were using the 70c stamps".

So in summary she just saw they were wedding invitations and assumed I didn't have enough postage when I did Smiley smile

Mine are regular 5×7 and weigh under 1oz. So we used forever stamps. I have heard that if they are bulky (ribbon tied inside, gems on your invite, etc) it costs more even if they are within range with everything else.

Update! I went back and got a different clerk, he weighed them and now is saying they cost .70 cents! I wish I saw 24kMagicWed's post before. I ended up buying the .70 cent stamps. It's so frustrating! I don't want them sent back, but I'm confident they would be fine under the forever stamp.

@WWLynnie - that's what I'm assuming too. I feel like because they know it's a wedding invitation, they're automatically upcharging Smiley sad

I paid .70 for the butterfly (non machinable) stamp. It was worth it to not have multiple stamps or a machine ruin the invitations.

I did 70 cent envelopes and 49 cent ones were enclosed with rsvp envelope.

I just went to get ours weighed and she said we would need a .91 cent stamp. I was really hoping they would only be .70.

We managed to do it for $.49 for a 5x7 invite with pretty hefty cardstock, a bellyband, and three inserts. I was really happy about that! Our invites came with inner envelopes but they put us over an ounce so we didn't use them.

Use the self kiosk. You get to select the options and check if it really will cost $1.10 for postage
