How much do i pay my bartender?

Mackenzie, on March 4, 2018 at 5:12 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 14
So I’m having an open bar, in which I am providing the liquor, and am having 200 guests, though only 150 are old enough to use it. I’m having one of my bridesmaids’ sister, who just acquired a bar tending license, to bartend. How much should I pay her for 4 hours? I am giving her a tip jar. How much should I also tip her?

See what the average bartender in your area makes per guest per hour. You can probably find it on google. Unless she's giving you a family price

The quotes that I got from bartending agencys around me ranged from 40-100 per hour for them to just do the setup/serving/clean up. We will be tipping the bartenders, I don't want to ask my guests to do that. Are you also having mixed drinks? If you are that would be a lot of people to serve with only one bartender.

I know half of those people won’t even touch the bar and we will personally already have the bar set up for her when she arrives. Clean up will be wiping down the bar top and helping out with putting liquor away in their boxes. I will have disposable cups. She told me the maximum people she would serve by herself would be 150.

Don’t hire a friendor. Hire a professional who has done this before. Also do not put out a tip jar. Your guests should not be spending money at the bar for your wedding. You should be paying and tipping the bartender.

According to your other thread she’s never had a bartending gig before so how would she know if she
    can comfortably serve 150 people?

To add, For 200 guests, you need at least 2 bartenders. Even if people aren’t drinking alcohol, the still may come to the bar for a soda.

Another thing to think about, what if your friend got sick or some emergency came up? Since you aren't hiring her from an agency there is no back up to be sent in her place.

You're only hiring ONE bartender (and an inexperienced one at that) to serve 200 guests!?! My cater is supplying four bartenders (they determined the number) for our 150 guests for 4.5 hours.

The general rule is 1 bartender per 100 guests. That means at 101, you should hire another bartender. We had two bartenders for 6 hours and paid them each $300.

I didn’t read the comments so if I’m repeating I’m sorry... is there a way you can hire 2 people. I’m in the business and 1 person tending bar for that amount of people is a lot. People will wait for drinks for a while. With that said. I would think at least $200 for 4 hours. You don’t need to tip her on top of that just allow her to have a tip jar.

My caterer will be supplying drinks for us already with their servers. My bartender is just going to be mixologist.

$200 -$300 but I would say you might want to have 2 people only because I'm guessing you are having 50 under age who drinks soda/juice I feel its a lot for 1 person.
