How much do planners usually cost?

Hello!
My fiance and I are planning a destination wedding in Miami and are looking for a planner. So far, the price range has been 5,000~12,500 for full planning (lowest partial planning being 3,800). I did not know planners cost so much!

Am I looking at the wrong places? Are planners with higher fee supposed to be better? Do they normally negotiate more for us that in the end they save us more? I am very confused at this wide range of planner fees.

Please someone help us!😩

I paid $12k for a full service planner in California. The average was around $10k in my area but I added on some things to my package like rehearsal dinner planning and guest management. The cheaper planners in my area had less experience and I wanted someone experienced. A planners job isn’t to negotiate or save you money, their job is to plan your wedding and find you vendors and take stress off of you. If you don’t have a large budget I would forego a planner.

I live in the Midwest and average cost of planner starts at $2000 and goes up from there. I only paid $800 for mine because I had planned most of my wedding already when we hired her,
