How much does a destination wedding cost?

taylor, on March 2, 2018 at 3:30 PM Posted in Planning 0 12
Hello all!I could use some advice from anyone that has done a wedding at an all inclusive resort! Any advice on cutting down the costs at these resorts? I have been researching and planning a destination wedding in Mexico and have decided on having it at Secrets Akumal. The resort is gorgeous with great testimonials for both weddings and accommodations. However, I’m still finding that the wedding packages offered are a bit more pricey than I anticipated. Has anyone had success negotiating these prices, receiving a discount, or extra perks etc? Also, has anyone had success negotiating breaks for room costs for wedding groups? I feel like if I’m spending so much to have a wedding there already and I’m bringing 60-100 other hotel guests to their resort I would hopefully get a special room rate.. I have been in contact with a travel agent local to my area to book the accommodations and travel myself and my guests.
I absolutely love this resort and I have my heart set on it. If I could just find a little extra wiggle room I’d jump on it immediately. Thanks in advance!

I'm not sure if they give discounts for room blocks at resorts like that. But if they did, I expect they might want you to guarantee a minimum number of guests. Are you sure that 60-100 will come? Destination weddings often have a very high decline rate, because of the time and cost involved in attending.

We’re planning to invite about 100 guests but there’s about 60 that I know for sure would attend. Beyond that would be a guess

vendors on Black Friday discounts and I’m taking my own decor to help cut costs

where/when are you planning your DW? I agree , I wasn’t expecting the costs to add up so quickly. Which vendors did you find discounts for on Black Friday because that’s awesome!

No problem and yes hopefully they can . Our wedding is 6-23-18 at RIU Reggae in Montego Bay Jamaica. If you don’t get a fast response I can always put you in contact with the person I am using. Let me know.

    Happy Planning!!!!

Once you choose a resort make sure you look up their Facebook brides page, I’m getting married in Dominican Republic this April! I found that page and lots of vendors post there, that’s how I got the back Friday discounts idea! Also lots of brides post pics and reviews so you can get specific ideas!!

Talk with your travel agent about the discounted room rates. Our travel agent provided a rate that was a little lower than the advertised rate of the resort online. Our resort also gave us money off our final bill of a certain number of rooms were booked. Each resort has different policies so there is no guarantee that you will be able to get any discounts.
One of the reasons the cost is adding up for you is because Secrets is advertised as a luxury resort. Luxury costs more. Our wedding was in Cabo San Lucas and we went to Secrets Puerto Los Cabos for a free days honeymoon. It was an excellent resort and we had no complaints. But, one of the reasons we did not have the wedding there was because of the cost to our guests and us would have been too much. Have you already put a deposit and signed a contract with them? If you want to cut costs, look at other resorts or cut down on your guest list.

Every resort is different. our resort gives us a few different credits, based on the # of rooms we book. So if we book 26 rooms (double occupancy) we get discounts on our cocktail, dinner and room comps. This is the Karisma Cash for Your Bash Predictor tool for our resort - Azul Sensatori in Mexico.

I also suggest working with a travel agent - our TA was able to negotiate a great group rate for our guests and she managed all the bookings. I was not successful in any of my personal negotiations with any resort, but as soon as our TA called - she was successful. Plus, we got a few more, unpublished perks by using the TA.

Can someone give me an idea of what their costs were for the all-inclusive destination wedding?

    Thanks,
    Scott
