How much for bridesmaids/groomsmen gifts?

Alicia, on January 4, 2015 at 6:01 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 12

I saw a Knot article that said $75 - $150. If my wedding is about $18k total and we have 10 total maids and men in our party, what is reasonable? How much did y'all spend and what did you give? I was apparently low balling what to spend and now I need to reevaluate.

Wowsers on the BP size. I think the low to middle of the knot is about right. Good case for small parties...

We have 3 each plus two Jr. The girls I'm spending more on, and thus far I've spent about $50, plus breakfast, hotel, mimosa bar, etc. The gifts aren't quite done and will total around $75

First off Hi name twin!! Smiley smile ok so for our BM gifts we are spending about $75 per girl (I have 6) I am taking them to get massages and or facials they can decide which they want. For the GM (we only have 4) FH is taking them golfing which is $80 per guy.

I think I spent about $30 on mine each. When I was MOH for my sister's wedding (who is now my MOH) I'm pretty sure she spent less than $30 so I know she won't complain. Another girl is my FH's sister who is 16 so I know she's not expecting anything big. The other two bms that I have are also at the same stage in life so I know they're not going to expect me to spend a ton. I'd love to get them expensive gifts but it just isn't in the budget. Do what you can afford, these are your friends so I'm sure they'll be happy with even something small.

I have 4 bridesmaids and 2 ladies in my house party that will be reading verses at our wedding. So far, I am at about $80. I got them gifts they can use after (bracelets...not to wear during wedding, these really neat glass coasters with each of our different colleges, and I will be paying for half of make-up). I am incorporating the things that I want for day-of pictures purposes into my budget- monogrammed robe, fancy clothes hanger etc. I, personally, don't really think there is a "set" amount. I have been a bridesmaid 5 times and I have received gifts that you could tell were thrown together last minute, were only for the day of use, were very thoughtful, and then there have been times that I didn't receive anything. I knew that day wasn't about me and a "thank you" was sufficient. I am a gift-giver, so I'm going for it (I mean- I love these people!) but do what is in your budget and what you feel comfortable with!

I spent about $150 on each of my BM's. FH got part of his gift during the huge Knot sale and will end up sending about $20 for each GM.

We're having a super budget wedding and my girls know that, so I'm only spending about 40-50 on each ... I have 7 bridesmaids

I don't think it matters as long as it's from the heart.

I think its what you can afford. My parents are paying for 99% of the wedding but I am paying for my BM gifts. I have 8 BM and I can't afford $800 to get them each a $100 gift!! That's insane. I'm spending about $60 each. My parents are also covering the cost of the hair.

I got my bridesmaids (5 of them) coach wristlets, a tote bag, and a bracelet for the big day. Total each, $45. Groomsmen got engraved beer mugs, engraved knives, and ghost busters cufflinks. Total each $20. I tried to catch sales when I could.

It depends on what you want to get them. Seriously think about each person. You obviously know them well enough for them to be in your BP. One of the coolest gifts I got cost me $12. It was a second edition Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte off of ebay. My MOH is a librarian. Books mean the world to her. I also bought her an Alex and Ani bracelet with a pineapple, the hospitality symbol of the state of Virginia, and also the symbol of our wedding. Pick a charm for each girl and get her an Alex and Ani. They range in price from $28 to $38 per bracelet. Make sure each one matches something individual about that particular BM. It's not about the money, but making sure that the gift means something to the individual. Nothing worse than being in a wedding and getting a cookie cutter gift...the same gift that every other BM receives. Be creative. It's not about the money you spend, but about the thought behind the gift.
