💸 how much is a normal amount for flowers?

Jessica, on October 31, 2023 at 11:39 AM Posted in Planning 0 7
Never thought I’d have a wedding so I never looked into all the details that go into a wedding and reception. My fiancé and I would’ve just eloped however our mothers informed us they would hunt us down and beat us so that being said… tips and unnoticeable details for weddings are greatly appreciated. Like I didn’t know insurance was needed for weddings. Also, if I have it then I’d like to do it right. Originally I thought we could do this for 1500😆. Found out I was gravely naïve. We are now shooting to keep it to 8k but willing to no more than 16k. How much are flowers typically? I would like the flowers to be the focal point of the decorations. Are fake flowers better?

I know this isn't a great answer, but it really does depend. These types of questions are a little hard to answer

If you are wanting to DIY, you can get bulk flowers from SAMs or Costco. I went this route and spent < $600 but I had to assemble them all.

Going to a florist will be more expensive but they have the skill to design centerpieces and bouquets and know what flowers are in season, go well together, etc. This could range from a $1000 to $10000 depending on what you want and what is in season

There are wood flowers, plastic flowers, etc. Some look more fake than others, but the price again depends on what kind, how many, how much DIY you want to do. There are the plastic flowers from hobby lobby or you can go wood flowers.

I've heard of a lot of people using Ling's Moment, the online vendor for fake flowers and seeing them in person for events, they do look VERY real. This is a little more cost effective, and you can order what you want/need and then re-sell, they also last forever.

For real flowers, if you're looking to save money, I've had a bunch of friends do their flowers through Stop and Shop (a grocery store), Costco (wholesaler), or things along those lines. They often have good selections but at a much cheaper rate than going through a florist.

I agree with the above- it really just depends on what you're looking for. For my wedding we spent about $8000 on flowers and decor because it was super important to me to have the flowers that we did. My sister however had a gorgeous garden wedding and got her flowers from the farmers market the day of for about $300 I believe? And those are both for real flowers. I've seen people use fake flowers and have them done really well and I've also seen them look terrible so unfortunately I think you're going to just need to do a bunch of research and see what fits your vision and your budget...

Personally, I'd rather go with budget friendly real flowers from Costco or a farmer's market than fake. Budget wise, I know WeddingWire says rule of thumb for florals or decor is 8% of total budget, but it all depends on your priorities. The range in what people spend is from zero to sky is the limit.

Thank you so much! These look amazing and I’m able to order sample boxes to see if it would work for me. They don’t have my colors together so I’ll contact them to see if it’s a possibility since they do have all my colors just not coordinated in the pre assembled ones. I appreciate the advice!

There is no one size fits all answer because not only is every geographical location a different price point, but no two vendors in the same city offering the same items charge the same. Every couple has their own priorities and budget too. Some couples have flowers as a non negotiable but they may not be willing to look outside the box of wedding vendors vs a wholesale flower market in a major city or a grocery store florist found everywhere. Wholesale shops online such as fiftyflowers also exist but you have to include the total amount of time and stress at minimum wage per hour to the cost of supplies, so DIY is not always cheaper. Then there is the myth that all flowers everywhere are more expensive than faux when the opposite is more often the case. Greenery and rare flowers are what make the fresh flower quotes so expensive. If you’re not getting those, then you have nothing to worry about. At the end of the day, only you can decide what is reasonable.
